He graduated from Derby High School and joined the Navy right after. He was assigned to the USS Steven Potter 538 a destroyer, after boot camp and served on this ship in the South Pacific, until he was honorably discharged in December 1945. He married his High School sweet heart while on leave on July 14th, 1945. They were the parents of one son, Walter Rex McNay, who left them for heaven on July 18th, 2011. His parents and a sister, Carol, preceded him in death as well.
He is survived by his wife Katheryn; sister, Barbara & husband Robert McDowell; daughter-in-law, Lynn McNay; grandchildren, William Rex McNay II & wife Lori, Lacy Vessells & husband Travis; two step granddaughters, Melissa Rundell & husband Sean and Kelly O’Neil; 4 great grandchildren, Trinity and Aubrey Vessells, Makenna and Luke McNay, two step great grandchildren, Evan and Emma Rundell; several nieces & nephews he was especially fond of and a host of friends as well as his wonderful church family.
A graveside service with military honors will take place on Monday, February 15, 2016 at 11:00 am at Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Blvd., Riverside, CA 92518, Staging Area #5. A Memorial Service will follow on Monday, February 15, 2016 at 1:00 pm at LifePoint Church, 565 N. San Gorgonio Avenue, Banning, CA.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be given to LifePoint Church in Banning, Kaiser Hospice or a charity of your choice.
