Silvia Cabrera died on July 15, in Redlands, California from breast cancer. Silvia was born in her parent’s home in Mexico on November 12, 1952. She was the second child of what would be 8 total siblings. Silvia, with her family, immigrated to the United States in 1955. She began school at Wellwood Elementary in Beaumont in the first grade and would continue in Beaumont schools until graduating in 1970. She attended secretarial school and eventually got her first job at Armstrong Realty. With that job’s income, she bought her first car, a 1973 Ford Mustang muscle car. It was her pride and joy.
Eventually, Silvia began working as a secretary in Beaumont Unified School District After some time there, she worked in San Bernardino School District and finally in Coachella Valley Unified School District. It was at this time that she purchased her own home in the desert. Throughout her time working, Silvia took classes at local community colleges. She was a lifelong learner and especially loved classes about history, astronomy, geography and religion. After retiring from her educational career, she worked at Spates in Thermal, California. She enjoyed her time there and made many dear friends. The biggest joy of Silvia's life was her family. She was a wonderful sister who took care of her many younger siblings as they were growing up. She deeply loved her parents and was very generous with their care. Her nephews and nieces were always dear in her heart. Her Godchildren adored her. Silvia loved to travel. She took trips to Mexico and toured many states in the United States. Her fondest trip was to Washington, D.C. and the area surrounding it. She visited museums, civil war battlefields, and Arlington National Cemetery where she paid her respects to those who served our country. She became a United States citizen on September 13, 1996 and voted in every election. Her love of crafting is legendary. She enjoyed scrapbooking and was an expert crocheter who shared many of her creations with her family and friends.
An avid reader, she enjoyed books about the civil war, the Dune series and Harry Potter books and was a proud member of Ravenclaw house. She was a loving daughter, a caring sister, a doting tía and the best Nina any Godchild would want. She was preceded in death by her mother, Maria Cabrera, her grandparents, Arcadio and Severa Cabrera and Francisco and Narcisa Valdez. She was also preceded in death by many loving uncles, aunts, and cousins. She is survived by her father, Rodolfo Cabrera, her brothers Ramiro (Becky), Rudy (Sue), Oscar, Juan (Julie), Severo (Angela), Mario (Domenica), and her sister Elisa Barr (Mark), 16 nephews and nieces, 29 great nephews and nieces, and 4 great great nephews and nieces, numerous members of her large extended family and loving friends. Celebration of life memorial service will be August 6, 2024 at 10:00 am at Weaver Mortuary. We will share stories with each other about Silvia at that time. A private inurnment will be at a later date. Family requests that those attending wear their favorite anime, dragon, Harry Potter or Disney attire as she was a big fan of those genres. Silvia’s family would like to thank all of those that were with us during Silvia’s final journey. Your help and love are appreciated more than you know.
A memorial service for Silvia will be held Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Weaver Mortuary, 1177 Beaumont Ave, Beaumont, California 92223.
