Robert Connor West passed away peacefully on October 7, 2023 surrounded by family. Robert was born in Verden Germany on May 5, 1958 to Robert and Rita West. Robert immigrated to the United States in 1958 and grew up in Daingerfield, Texas. Upon graduating from High School, Robert attended East Texas State University where he majored in Geology. Robert began his professional career in the oil fields of East Texas working for Mobile, where he met the love of his life, Janet Hart. The two were married on June 29, 1984. On May 12, 1986 Robert became a father with the birth of his first daughter Katharine and on Feb 1, 1989 he welcomed his second daughter Clarissa. When Robert started working for ESRI in 1990, the family moved from Texas to California. Robert worked for ESRI for the next 30 years, retiring in March 2020.
Robert’s greatest passion in life was for his family. He was a devoted husband to his wife Janet, and a dedicated father to his children Katharine Watson and Clarissa West. Later in life he had the privilege of becoming the worlds greatest Opa to his grandchildren Michael, Sarah, Teddy, and Ruby Watson. Throughout his life he made sure he put his family first and shared his many passions with those he loved. Robert had a great love for music, proudly rocking out to every Rush, Iron Maiden, Eagles, The Who, and Jimmy Buffett concert he could. He had a lifelong love of football, from playing throughout his youth to cheering on his daughters’ college teams and the Chargers. Robert was the master of puns and Dad jokes, eliciting both laughter and many eyerolls from his friends and family. Robert found peace in nature, visiting as many National Parks as he could and advocating for charities that worked for the preservation and protection of nature. Robert had a special love for the American Buffalo and the many species of butterflies. The child of an Air Force Officer, Robert inherited a passion for WWII aircrafts and maintained a beautiful collection of vintage model airplanes.
Robert is survived by his wife, Janet West, his children Katharine Watson and Clarissa West, his two sons in laws Raphael Watson and Graham Larson, and four grand children Michael, Sarah, Teddy, and Ruby Watson. He was their compass and strength and will be profoundly missed.
Robert’s memorial service will be held in Spring of 2024 when the butterflies and flowers are out to celebrate his life with those he loved the most.
