Robert Benjamin Manuel was born October 13, 1950, to Rosa (deceased) and Benjamin Manuel Jr. (deceased) in San Diego, California, where he lived until he left home in 1968 at age 18 to attend Los Angeles Trade Technical College. While attending college, he lived with his father in Los Angeles; his parents divorced while he was in middle school. Robert (Big Bob) and his father were able to bond and become close friends and roommates. Not long after, Robert met Beverly, and his bachelor life was over. Robert and Beverly married on November 8, 1969, and remained married to this day and for eternity. Out of their union in 1972 came a daughter, Moena Tameka Manuel (Santee) and he also leaves behind his son-in-law Raymond Santee (Moena’s husband).
While growing up in San Diego and living with his mother in San Diego, he attended Lincoln Senior High School, where he developed a love of basketball and football. Robert not only loved the sport of football but played football while in high school. Robert also developed skills in wood and print shops and took his valuable knowledge of print to college. When not at school, studying, or doing chores, he loved to hang out with his friends at South Crest and Ocean View Park, shooting hoops and playing dominoes.
Robert has three siblings Charles James Howard (CJ) deceased, and survived by Cheri Marie Simmons (husband Preston), and Cindy Marie Barros. Robert leaves behind four grandchildren: Breon Perry, Brandon Santee, Brianna Santee, and Brelynn Santee. Robert’s father had no siblings, and his mother had a sister better known as Aunt Butsy. Aunt Butsy has five children and one stepson (Marcus Coney). Robert's first cousins are, Deborah Hooker, Oscar Wilson (Wife Ruthann), Mary Wilson, Vallory Mallory, and Michael Coney. Robert has a host of nieces, nephews, and second cousins and in-laws that he leaves behind but are not forgotten.
Finally, Robert retired from American Airlines in 2011 after 27 years of employment which he held several distinct positions in Los Angeles (LAX), Ontario International (ONT), and Atlanta Hartsfield (ATL). Before working in the airline industry, he worked for General Motors in South Gate and Van Nuys California. He briefly had a government classified position with Lockheed Martin Corporation. During Robert’s employment, he and Beverly lived in several cities in California and Ellenwood, Georgia. Robert and Beverly made Beaumont California (KHOV Four Seasons Resort) their last stop for retirement and their forever home in 2013. The family would like to thank each of you for your support, your thoughts, and your prayers. We know many of you were extremely near and dear to my husband, father, and grandfather, and share our grief. We have a lot of extended family throughout San Diego CA, Atlanta, Georgia area, and Beaumont California where strong ties still avail until this very day. We did not want to not acknowledge anyone, but if you knew Robert everyone was a friend or family, we appreciate and love you.
