Mary Brigid Malone (Bridie) was born June 12, 1930 in a flat on Parlament Street in Dublin Ireland. Her parents were Michael Griffin and Mary Ann Carroll-Griffin. Bridie was raised in the Dublin Liberties along with her three brothers, Tomo, Jimmy, and Gerard, and her four sisters, Eleanor, Rita, Angela and Mona. Being the eldest of the family, Bridie was deeply involved in the loving care and proper raising of all her siblings. Bridie’s genuine love of children and instinctive motherly skills were developed at a very early age, and carried with her until her death. Bridie was a dedicated and loving sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was an angel and will be missed.
From the very moment you met Bridie, you could feel her deep passion and great sense of Irish pride. Even more than just her Irish pride, was her greater pride of being a “Jackine”, Dublin borne and rared. No matter where she was or who she was with, if she found herself within earshot of an Irish accent, she would track that person down and insist upon speaking with them about what part of Ireland they were from, who they knew in Ireland, and why they were no longer in Ireland. And more times than not, she would know of a relation to that person.
When Bridie was in her early 20’s, she left Dublin and headed to Canada to be with the one love of her life, John Leo Malone, who had also left Dublin in search of greater opportunity. John and Bridie shared both a dream and vision for their lives and in raising a family of their own. Mary and John married on June 6, 1953 in Toronto, Canada. On October 2nd, 1957, daughter Angela Marie Malone was born. Soon after, the Malone family moved to Southern California. On November 30th, 1961, son Shaun Michael Malone was born into the Malone family
Bridie was a focused worker and had a strong drive for achievement. She worked as a waitress for over 40 years and took pride in her customer service and enjoyed meeting people. Up until the time of her death, as most of you know, going out to dinner with Bridie was always something to remember. She would always compare the service she received with the service she would have given and if it didn’t measure up well lets just say we have lots of stories we can tell. This just shows the kind of heart and pride Bridie had in her life. When you do something you give it your best then she would say that is something to be proud of.
Bridie was blessed with a daughter Angela, and a son Shaun. One of Bridie’s greater joys in life are her grandchildren. Her four grandchildren Tara, Laura, Katelyn and Shaun Thomas and 3 great grandchildren, Amber, Joey and Aaden can tell you how lucky they were to have such a wonderful Nanny. Bridie loved them unconditionally they could do no wrong in her eyes. She very proud of her children and proud of the children they were raising.
Bridie had a huge heart for her family and for life. She had great pride in the life that her and John built in California. We all knew Bridie as an out spoken women a women that told you like it was, we always knew what she was thinking and if we didn’t she was sure to let us know. That’s what made Bridie Bridie and the women that we all love so dearly. She was also a women that had one of the biggest loving most kind loving heart that you would ever find in someone. If family or a friend needed her she was there no matter what. She would be the first one to hold your hand to let you know things would be OK.
Bridie loved to travel and see knew places and old. Having the opportunity to visit and explore a new place always intrigued Bridie. Traveling and going away on vacations offered yet another opportunity for Bridie to expand her ever-growing inventory of knowledge. Favorite vacations included her Hawaii, Mexico cruise and Bahama's cruise, and of course visiting Ireland.
In 1994, her new life involved relocating to Sun Lakes Country Club in Banning, California. In retirement, she enjoyed going to the clubhouse for a night of drinking and dancing with friends. Bridie continued to stay in touch with her old friends while making plenty of new acquaintances. Bridie was a member of the Emerald Isle Club, Southeast United Soccer Club, Friendship Club and Young at Heart Club.
