Joseph Michael Martin, Sr, was born February 22, 1916, in Camden, New Jersey, to John Martin and Susanna (De Groat) Martin. He was the 13th of 13 children. He passed away March 1, 2012, in Redlands, California. Joseph was married to Mary (Agnes Mc Aleer) Martin on October 18, 1937. They were married for 54 years when she passed away at the age of 79, on July 20, 1991. Joseph was an Electronics Engineer and also worked in Management. among his employers were the Burroughs Corporation and the Xerox Corporation. He created new circuits for Univac Computers. When he was 89, he had published 3 books "Rings of Dhone" (sci-fi), "For Glory or Despire" and "The Wrenville Saga" (based on The French Revolution). As a young man, he was an active competitive swimmer and diver, he was tutored in swimming and diving by Johnny Weissmuller (the first movie Tarzan). Joseph brought his family (Mary and son, Joe, Jr) from Pennsylvania to California in 1955. For the last few years he lived in Yucaipa, California with his son, Joe, Jr and wife, Patricia. For the last 10 years, he served as a volunteer at the EDWARD DEAN Museum in Cherry Valley, California, giving tours and entertaining school children with his magic trick skills. He enjoyed this and was proud he was able to serve. He always loved to have a conversation, had a sense of humor and was articulate up till his final days. He will be missed by family and those that got to know the man with the twinkle in his eye and for his sage advice.
Joseph is survived by his son, Joseph, Jr and wife, Patricia and his grandchildren, Shawn, Benny and Roy.
Visitation Wednesday, March 7, 2012, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and Funeral service Thursday, March 8, 2012, at 9:00 AM, both at Weaver Mortuary, 1177 Beaumont Avenue, Beaumont, California. He will be laid to rest next to his wife at Resurrection Cemetery, 966 N. Potrero Grande Dr, South San Gabriel, California.
Arrangements were entrusted to Weaver Mortuary, Beaumont, CA.
