My heart goes out to the entire Kabarsky family and the many friends of Joanne. She was such a wonderful and loving person, and it appears that Heaven needed just a bit more of that. 
I have fond memories of Joanne, having spent many of my childhood days in the Kabarsky household. Watching her with her children as they grew up was always a joy! I also enjoyed many weeks at the Kabarsky river house with Joanne, and some of my happiest and most fun memories include her and all of the Kabarskys. 
One in particular, that to this day I still think of, is a day at the old river house (the log cabin!). Joanne was there with us, along with her friend at the time (who's name, I believe, may have also been Joanne?). This would have been around the early 80's. Her friend had just purchased a brand new Honda, which she proudly parked immediately in front of the river house. 
Richard and I had built a firewood stack in our rock campfire ring. It was dusk and we were ready to light it, but had no way to do so. We searched inside the adjacent shed, as well as in Dick's blue Chevy truck, for a lighter or a match, to no avail. I suggested we look in the glove box of Joanne's friend's new car. I opened the passenger door and sat in the seat, taking in that lovely new car smell. I opened the glove box and, after shuffling through a few things, exited the car and shut the door. 
To this day, I really can't recall whether or not I found what I was looking for, but do know that our dedication prevailed and Richard and I had, once again, made ourselves a fire to be proud of, with the tips of the flames probably licking the 9-foot mark! 
Later that evening, and after a good (and understandable!) verbal lashing from Dick for having endangered everyone and everything around us, Joanne and her friend returned to the shiny new Honda, to find a 7" round, dark red spot on the new, light grey cloth passenger seat. Of course everyone was freaking out, wondering what had happened (including myself), when Richard spoke up and said 'Hey man, what's on the back of your jeans?', to which I spun my neck to peek at what I immediately realized to be the culprit: A red Magic Marker that I had stuck in my back pocket earlier that afternoon. It had, at some point, split in half and leaked. Oh no! I was the guilty one! 
I wanted to go home so bad at that moment. Everyone was yelling at me and Richard (but of course, he didn't deserve any of it), except for Joanne. She jumped right to my defense and, after calming everyone down, comforted me and made me feel right at home again! I knew they all loved me, and that it was just a fleeting moment of shock for everyone, but with Joanne there backing me up the entire time, I knew that she was a friend for life. I loved (actually, still love!) Joanne and know that Heaven is a little better off, now, with her there. 
Life is so fleeting and it is times like this that we are all reminded of how delicate it is, and to cherish those we love as much as possible. Until we see her again, we will all hold her in our hearts, along with the thousands of memories.
My prayers and thoughts are with her family and friends, distant and close. May God comfort you all and give you the peace in knowing that we'll all be together again one day! 
Oh, by the way, for those of you that may be wondering why I had a red Magic Marker in my pocket...Richard and I had made a cardboard sign that read "LEMONADE .50 CENTS" in our marketing attempt to sell the refreshing iced delights on the side of US Route 95. Total sales: ZERO.  It's tough to get folks to read your sign at 85 miles an hour. Let alone stop.
