He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 beautiful years, Guadalupe Fierro Duran, affectionately known as "Lovie". Together, they built a life full of love and family. Abel leaves behind three children: Linda S. Gildea, Lonnie Duran, and Carol Gutierrez. He was a proud grandfather to 12 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Lydia Lujan Sasaki.
Abel was preceded in death by his parent, Alexander Duran and Esther Montoya Lujan; his sister, Esther Duran De La Cruz; and his grandchildren Joseph Abel Gutierrez, Lonnie Duran, and Sarah Michelle Duran.
Abel worked as a cement mason for over 40 years. He was deeply devoted to his faith, serving in jail ministry and actively participating in Canaan Assembly, where he taught, preached, and led outreach programs such as Adopt-a-Block. He also contributed creatively, building floats for city events in Banning, California.
Abel had a passion for life. He loved visiting theme parks - especially Disneyland - traveling, spending time at the beach, and enjoying family gatherings. He was also a gifted artist who found joy in painting and many other creative expressions. And when it came to football, he had a blast cheering on the Chiefs.
Our family extends heartfelt thanks to all for your love and support during this time. A special thank you to Cherry Valley Healthcare and the incredible caregivers and medical staff who showed such compassion and care for Abel.
