William Billy Mitchell

William ""Billy"" Mitchell, 73, of Baytown was born February 2, 1942, in Goose Creek and passed away Thursday, October 1, 2015, in Brackettville, TX. A lifelong resident of Baytown, he graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1960 and then Lee College and retired from Oxy Chem, formerly Diamond Shamrock, with 35 years of service. He was a member of Second Baptist Church, where he and his wife Sue were very active in the children's ministry, and for 41 years he was a passionately dedicated member of the Baytown Evening Optimist Club. He was also a member of Habitat for Humanity and was a founder of the Baytown Girls Softball Association. He was an avid deer hunter and enjoyed attending the Friday morning prayer breakfasts at Redeemer Lutheran Church and watching his grandchildren participate in sporting events.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Mitchell; first wife, Sherry Mitchell; brother, Emmett Mitchell; son-in-law, Bubba Johnson; and brother-in-law, Joe Beene. He is survived by his wife, Sue Mitchell of Baytown; son and daughter-in-law, Karl and Donna Mitchell of Beach City; daughters and sons-in-law, Steffani and Bobby Massengale of Baytown and Staci and Brent Thompson of Katy; stepsons and stepdaughters-in-law, Bryan and Paula Gesford of Baytown and Joel and Denise Gesford of Rosharon; brother and sister-in-law, Ganie Ray and Nancy Mitchell of Anahuac; grandchildren, Daniel and Karli Mitchell, McKade Massengale, Taylor and Rylee Thompson, Kelsey, Kaci, Amanda, Christian, and Braden Gesford; Jordan Morgan, and Stacie Krutsinger; mother-in-law, Melba Pittman of Baytown; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ronnie and Cathy Pittman of Rosenberg, Reginald Pittman of Manhattan, KS, Beverly and Darryl Lusk of Highlands, and Connie Beene of Baytown.

His family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 6, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at Second Baptist Church, 6227 N. Main St., Baytown, TX 77521, with Rev. Tommy Clements and Rev. Mark Stafford officiating. Burial will follow at White Cemetery in Highlands.

Serving as pallbearers will be Waco Bruce, Richard Kimball, Charles Guidry, Robert Guenther, Bobby Reid, and Delbert Hale. Honorary pallbearers will be Buck Raney, Kyle Fanning, Doug Wallace, and Tillman Blanchard.
