Services for William T. Jones, 96, of Macon, Ga. who died Thursday, Jan. 4, will be held in Baytown, Texas, Saturday, Jan. 13, 10 a.m., at Navarre Funeral Home. The Rev. Eddie Norris will officiate with burial in Liberty City Cemetery in Texas. A memorial service will be scheduled at Vineville Baptist Church in Macon at a later date.
Bill was born in Waycross on Jan. 31, 1921 and was the Valedictorian of the 1939 class of Hoboken High. He was a bomber pilot in the Army Air Corps in World War II, flying a Martin B-26 Marauder over North Africa and Italy. He graduated from the University of Texas in 1949 in chemical engineering and worked for and retired from Exxon in Baytown, Texas. While there, he was a dedicated member and deacon of Central Baptist Church and enjoyed woodworking.
He is preceded in death by wife of 60 years, Elaine Stokes Jones, whom he met at a USO dance during his primary training.
In 2003, he married Beatrice Crosby (Jones) of Macon. In 2007, they moved to Macon, where Bill joined Vineville Baptist Church. They shared a love for visiting shut-ins.
Other survivors include a daughter Jennifer Bishop of Birmingham, Al.; son Timothy Jones of Houston, Tex.; stepsons Lamar (Shannon) Crosby of Marietta, Glenn Crosby of Tennessee, and Wiley (Diane) Crosby of Forsyth, Ga; granddaughters, Rebecca Bishop, Elizabeth (Paul) Holton, and Anna (Dr. Philip) Rambo; four great-grandchildren and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the donor’s favorite charity.
