Wilbur Thurston Parker, 87, passed away February 15, 2012. He was born on March 31, 1924. As a young man Wilbur served his country by joining the army. After leaving the service he went to work for Exxon Refinery where he worked for 30 years. He loved when they sent him to Singapore. During that time he married the love of his life, Leola. Wilbur moved Hemphill, TX when he retired but they missed their family so much that they moved back to Highlands, TX where they lived all their lives. He was a long time member of Second Baptist Church, Highlands. He loved to fish on Toledo Bend and loved to garden. The man could even make a stick grow. He really had a green thumb.
He was preceded in death by his father, Carl H. Parker; mother, Lydia M. Parker; sons, Gerald Parker, Ronnie Parker, Jimmy Parker, & Michael K. Parker; daughter, Mary K. Johnson; sister, Vera Bruner; brothers, Jack Parker, Herman Parker, & Oscar Parker.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Leola M. Parker; daughter, Cynthia Mc Morrow & husband Charles; grand-daughters, Tiffany Kelly & husband Monty of League City, TX, Christina Herring & husband Michael Herring; grand-sons, Clayton Parker & Michael Parker; great grand-daughters, Brittany Kelly & Felicity Parker; great grand-son, Justin Kelly; brothers, Robert Parker & wife Bonnie, & Henry Parker; sister, Lilly Shaffer; and many numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends and family on Sunday, February 19, 2012 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Earthman Funeral Home Chapel, 3919 Garth Road, Baytown, TX 77521.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 20, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Earthman Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Eddie Norris officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Baytown, TX. Serving as Pallbearers will be Monty Kelly, Justin Kelly, James Cernosek, David Parker, Guy Gatewood, and Dean Goodrich.
The family would like to thank Green Acres Nursing Home and all their staff, and Odyssey Hospice for taking such good care of Daddy.
