He was born on May 14, 1917, in Mora, Minnesota to his late parents Ernest and Mary Ingersoll. Wayne, as a skilled storyteller shared many stories about his childhood in Butler, Missouri on a large farm with his parents and three siblings. Except for high school, he was educated in a one-room schoolhouse.
Coming to Baytown in 1939, Wayne was employed by C.F. Braun Co., later the owner of the Gulf Gasoline Station on Park and N. Main Streets, and later retired from Armco Steel after many years of service as the Payroll Master.
A World War II veteran, he served in the United States Army, 9th Air Force in England, France, Belgium and Germany.
Wayne enjoyed traveling throughout the United States in his motor home, fishing, hunting and working in the garden. He had a great passion for animals, especially his beloved kitty, Slick Willie, and his many little garden friends.
As an active member of Central Baptist Church, he served as sound equipment operator and Sunday School Records Secretary for the last 30 years. Wayne celebrated his “100th” birthday in May at Central’s Fellowship Hall with his family, church family and friends.
His survivors include wife, Mary Edith Ingersoll; daughter, Pamela Kaye Ingersoll; son, Wayne Victor Ingersoll Jr.; granddaughters, Pier Louisa Laird and Le Anne Hosmer, nephews: Harold Wayne Newcomb and wife Rosemarie, Loyal Ingersoll and wife Margie, nieces: Doris and husband Stanley Rynard, Sharryl Church and Carol and husband Charles Monismith.
In addition to his parents, Wayne is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Earline Ingersoll; sisters, Opal Newcomb and Grace Plunkett, brother, Orval Ingersoll and granddaughter Christine Hope Ingersoll.
Officiating is Pastor Mark Wells of Central Baptist Church. Pallbearers are Eddie Cowins, Pete Enderli, Lynn Guidry, Ricky Kunz, Bobby Mullens, Kent Reep, Donnie Wenckens, and David Westermann.
We greatly appreciate the loving care given to Wayne by Ashley, Kim, Tatum and Morena of Visiting Angels and Faith Community Hospice.
Wayne, a gentle man of integrity and humor will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
Services will be Tuesday, September 5th at 10:00 a.m. with family visitation at 9:00 a.m. at Navarre’s Funeral Home. Burial will be at Sterling White Cemetery in Highlands, Texas.
