Warren Lee Miller was born July 13, 1948 in Dayton Texas, to Juanita Penny Miller and Warren Orville “Shorty” Miller. He stepped in to “Glory” on Sunday morning, June 30, 2024, from his home of 67 years in Hardin Texas with his devoted wife of 28 years by his side. His last few years was a journey spent with peace, smiles and even laughter. To the ones who cared for him, he brought joy and laughter to them as well.
Lee grew up on the family homestead playing Cowboys and Indians with cousins out in the pastures in Hardin which was part of the Key homestead dating back more than a hundred years where he resided until his going home to God. In fact, Lee was a very distant cousin to the author of our Star Spangled Banner, Francis Scott Key. Maybe that is where he got his love of music.
He spent ten of his twelve years of school in the Hardin school district where he was part of the Hardin Band for many years playing his beloved saxophone, which his dad had bought him from the Hull Hardware in Hull, Texas, which still hangs on the wall at his home. He graduated high school in 1966 and immediately joined the United States Coast Guard. Where he was very proud to have served. Entering boot camp he was fortunate to be able to be a part of the U.S. Coast Guard Band with his prized saxophone and marched in several of the military events.
After leaving the Coast Guard in 1970, be began his career as an electronics specialist where he worked hard all his life to provide for his family spending twenty years with Gulf/Chevron/Amoco/ British Petroleum and continuing to work until his retirement in 2015.
Lee was a very active, servant during his life, always ready to help a friend, a neighbor, member of the church or even a stranger on the side of the road. He was a city councilman for two terms for the City of
Hardin and also was elected Mayor for two terms for the City of Hardin. He was a deacon in the church, member of the church board, a Sunday school teacher, worked in the nursery, worked the sound board, and sang and played his saxophone on the praise team for over years. He loved his church, but not as much as he loved the Lord. He would often tear up when he spoke of his Lord and Savior. And on his last Sunday morning he quietly got up and left for the Big Church in the Sky.
Lee loved music, fast cars, Kung Fu Movies, The Cowboy Channel, Walker Texas Ranger and tinkering in his shop. You could always find him working on something.
Lee is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Donald Wayne Miller, sister-in-law, Margaret Ann Fondon Miller, and infant son Michael Harvard Miller. Left to carry on his love, honesty, integrity and the love of God is his wife Barbara Jean Fondon Miller, son Donald Lee Miller and wife Donna of Dayton, daughter Kelly Renee Houck and husband Ronald of Baytown, stepson Erik Zane Hopper and wife Tamie of Hull, ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren and many cousins and a host of dear friends.
Honoring Lee as pallbearers are his core buds, Jesse Lozano, Rick Thompson, James Coughlin, Ted Donatto, Brian Edwards, and John Sudella.
Honorary Pallbearer will be his long time childhood buddy, Mike Rowlette
