Thomas Wade Mason, “Tommy,” left his earthly life on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 after a hard-fought, five-year battle with metastatic prostate cancer. Born in McAllen, Texas on July 3, 1972, Tommy and his family lived in Bentsen State Park where his father was a park ranger, before moving to Baytown in 1975, and at the ripe ole age of 3, Baytown became his home.
Tommy attended Travis Elementary and Baytown Junior Schools, and was a proud graduate of the class of 1990 from Robert E. Lee High School. With a love and passion for cars and mechanics, he continued his education becoming a certified mechanic working for several larger Houston-area dealerships, before taking a position as a machinist with ExxonMobil BOP in Baytown. Tommy loved the challenge of a complicated project, with all things electrical being his forte. As a consummate “tinkerer,” you could find him working on any one of his beloved cars including his Corvette, Chevelle, or Cobra; or making any number of home improvements.
Tommy loved to travel and take adventures, and in his spare time, he would hop on his one-of-a kind Indian Chieftain Dark Horse venturing to places unknown, often time in pursuit of the perfect Old Fashioned, the tastiest fish and chips, or his favorite, chicken fried steak (all meals had to include Greek seasoning). He also loved the outdoors, with Petite Jean State Park in Arkansas being one of his favorite spots.
Tommy was known for his quick wit and astute observations, and possessed an intellect that allowed him to discuss any topic presented to him, and he was hardly wrong. He had an eclectic taste in the arts including music ranging from Tool to Mozart; Shakespeare to his favorite author of “Fight Club,” Chuck Palahnuik; and movies from “A Clockwork Orange” to “Camelot.” In search of decent horror movies, he watched some of the worst “B” horror flicks you could imagine and was actually proud of it. He also loved to draw and sketch and play his guitar.
Tommy is lovingly survived by his parents, John and Margaret Mason; the love of his life, wife, Tracey Mason, sons Alexander Fox and Trevor Rexx; brother James and sister-in-law, Claudia; nieces Stefani, and husband Rudy, and Wendy; and the Lil Man, grandson Alexander Bocksnick, II, who lovingly refers to his grandpa simply as “Dude.” Tommy is also survived by uncle Durwood Mason, and wife Pam; uncle Larry Mason, and wife Sheila; Aunt Judy Phillips; and numerous cousins; as well as a host of friends, both lifelong and new. Tommy is also survived by his fur baby Riley Roo O’Fuzzle, and step-dog, Franklin. Tommy was proceeded in death by his grandparents, Julius Paul and Mada Bates; John and Ann Mason; Aunt Dottye Banta; and bonus son Alexander Bocksnick.
Tommy was a kind and generous man who took pride in taking care of those whom he cared for. He will never be forgotten, as he left his unique impression on the lives of those who were fortunate enough to know him, and his love for life will be deeply missed by all of us who loved him. Meow (IYKYK).
Visitation will be held at Navarre Funeral Home on Friday, May 3 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A remembrance of his life will be held on Saturday, May 4 (Star Wars Day) beginning at 10:00 am. Private interment will immediately follow.
