Thomas Neil ""Tommy Jones

Thomas Neil “Tommy” Jones was born August 31, 1941 to Ola and Clifford Jones in Tyler, Texas. He took his last breath here on earth and his next breath in the arms of Jesus on Monday, July 30, at MD Anderson hospital in Houston. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, and friend to many. He was a member of Second Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, treasurer, choir member, and various committees during his 53 year membership. He always considered his church his second family.

Tommy attended John Tyler High School where he played baseball and worked at the family owned gasoline station. After high school, he attended North Texas and graduated with a business degree from Stephen F. Austin State University where he met Sandra Kemplay, his bride to be. After graduation, he moved to Baytown and worked for Cravens Dargen Insurance Co. in Houston before going to work for Gulf Oil Chemicals as an Accountant. He retired from Chevron Phillips as Accounting Supervisor after 38 years of service.

Tommy loved helping others and always put others’ needs before his own. He enjoyed coaching his son’s Little League teams and watching his daughter play sports. After the grandchildren came along, he loved spending time with them and attended all of their activities. He was a true family man, always looking forward to the next get-together which included his famous hamburgers and homemade Butterfinger ice cream.

Tommy was preceded in death by his father Clifford Jones, his father-in-law T.R. Kemplay, and his brother-in-law Jerry Kemplay. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sandra Kemplay Jones, his son Kevin and wife Nisha, his daughter Staci Woods and husband Don, and 5 grandchildren: Amanda Woods, Davis Woods, Annie Jones, Ryan Jones, and Maegan Jones. Also surviving is his mother, Ola Marie Jones of Tyler, brother, Allen Jones and wife Felicia of Rowlett, sister, LaVerne Lewis of Tyler, mother-in-law, Loyce Kemplay of Baytown, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Thursday, August 2, 2018, at Second Baptist Church, 6227 North Main, Baytown, TX 77520, with visitation beginning at 10:00 am followed by a celebration of life at 11:00 am. with Rev. Tommy Clements and Rev. Mark Stafford officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarcrest Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Ryan Jones, Davis Woods, Keith Kemplay, Wayne Guest, Pat Mooney, and Chris Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Epperson, Reggie Brewer, and Robert Francis.
