Shirley worked for Longview ISD and retired from Goose Creek CISD. She was a member of Cedar Bayou Baptist Church.
Shirley had a very strong faith. She loved her husband Elton and being around family. She was an old fashioned traditional Southern Bell that never left the house without model perfect appearance and had achieved the art of bigger the better with hair, makeup and jewelry. She never met bling or the color red that she didn’t love, and she looked forward to her weekly hair salon appointment. Shirley had a big heart with lots of compassion and never met a stranger. She loved shopping and antiquing, and she loved to read and go to the library. Shirley enjoyed spending time by the water and trips to the lake and beach. She loved her dog, Twyla, who gave her company and unconditional love. She enjoyed decorating to the fullest extent for each season and holiday.
She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Lillie Holder, and by her son Jerry Don Cook.
She is survived by her husband, Elton Boyett of 34 years; her daughter, Deanne Cook Wagner and her husband Tom, of Frisco, Texas, and their children, Tess and Sevy; her son’s children, Makenna and Clayton, of Baytown, Texas; siblings, James Holder and Patsy Perran; grandchildren, Candice and Josh Hahn, Joey Marks, Madison Marrow; and 2 great-grandchildren, Hazel and Charlie.
Visitation will be held from 10-11 am, Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at Cedar Bayou Baptist Church, 3116 N. Alexander Dr., Baytown, Texas 77520. Funeral service will begin at 11 am at Cedar Bayou Baptist. Interment will follow at Sterling White Cemetery, in Highlands, Texas.
