Samuel Allen Mercer, 73, went to be with the Lord on Saturday February 3, 2007. He was born in Highlands, TX to the late William F. and Ora Lee Mercer on February 13, 1933. Samuel lived in Highlands until 1987, then he moved to Dayton, TX.
He was in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1961, and retired from Dixie Chemical as a General Foreman. During his retirement, he enjoyed raising cattle and watching his granddaughters play softball.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Dorothy Louise Mercer; his parents; sisters, Hazel Hall, Lillian Shepherd; and brother, Raymond Mercer.
He is survived by his children, Byron Mercer and wife JoEllen of Baytown, TX, Bruce Mercer of Dayton, TX; grandchildren, Kelsie Mercer and Andrea Mercer of Baytown, TX; brothers, George R. Mercer and wife Marlys of Hinsdale, MT, Gordon Mercer and wife Beverly, of Sheridan, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
His family will receive friends at Navarre funeral Home on Friday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday 2:00 p.m. at Navarre Funeral Home, officiated by Bishop Arless Glass. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
