He was born in Goose Creek, Texas to his late parents, Callie Maurice Callaway and Mary Sitaska Riley Callaway on September 21, 1935. He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1954 and continued on as a class reunion committee member. In 1955 he enlisted in the US Navy and was discharges in 1959.
Ronnie was a little league coach in the East Little League in Baytown all during his sons' youth as well as a football coach at the YMCA. His love for children and animals was well known along with never meeting a stranger and being loved by everyone, especially for his famous sense of humor.
He was a monthly contributor to the Shriners' Club and to St. Jude's Children's Hospital and loved golf, playing it until recently.
Mr. Callaway had worked for Dow Budische and then went to work for Exxon, retiring in 1999 after 24 years of faithful service.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Callie and Mary Callaway and his brother, Dane Callaway.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years and the love of his life, Betty Callaway; children, Ronnie Keith, Jr. and wife, Angie, Danielle and husband, Joe, Missy Herrera and Pat Murphy, Jr. and wife, Debbie; grandchildren, Robert Keith and fiancé, Shellie, Cody Ryan, Colby and wife, Lacey, Ryan and Jesse Murphy and Tori and Candace Herrera; great-grandchildren, Lochlyn, Kye, Carli, Noah and Austin; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Buddy and Annette Barber and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, December 30, 2016 at Navarre Funeral Home. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 31, 2016 at Navarre Funeral Home with Rev. John Newsome officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarcrest Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Robert Callaway, Cody Callaway, Colby Callaway, Ryan Murphy, Jesse Murphy, Richard Bigler, Robert Gunther and Jack Jackson. Honorary pallbearers will be James Massengale, Joe Eddleman, Robert Addison, Pat Orchin, Buddy Barber and Tate Barber.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Chris Hayes and his wife Kim for all of their loving care, as well as Debbie Nailon for her hospice care.
