Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 April 9 at Earthman Baytown Funeral Home, 8624 Garth Road, Baytown, TX. Funeral services will be 10:00 April 10 at St. Marks Methodist Church, 3811 N. Main St., Baytown, TX. Interment will be Earthman Memory Gardens.
The youngest son of William and Ethel Wright, he was born Oct. 3, 1932. A native of Baytown, after graduating from Robert E. Lee High School, he joined the US Army and served during the Korean War as a Radarman for the 764th AAA Battalion stationed on the Panama Canal.
On his return to civilian life, he attended Steven F. Austin University where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Forestry. He also attended further courses at Texas A&M University.
He was employed for 46 years by Lee College in Baytown where he was a professor of Zoology, Botany, Aquatic Biology, Microbiology and Anatomy/Physiology. Upon his retirement, Lee College and the Wright family developed the “Robert Lazenby Wright Scholarship for the Natural Sciences” which is presented yearly to students of nursing, biology or natural science.
He helped establish and was active for many years with the Baytown Historical Museum as the Wright family dated to the earliest days of Baytown. He was also an active member for years with Rotary International. When he wasn’t involved in civic activities, Bob enjoyed woodworking, cooking and wine making. His special Thanksgiving dinner events will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ethel Wright; first wife, Julia Anne Farned/Gervais; brother, William Perkins Wright, Jr.; sisters, Eula Marie Ball and Ethel Mae Davidson.
He is survived by second wife Glenda Wright; sons, Robert “Choya” Wright Jr. (Kathy) of Baytown and Gordon “Kenny” (Tomie Young) Wright of Winnie; daughter, Lydia Colynn Richardson (Richard) of Baytown; nine grandchildren Enjoli and Trinity Richardson (Kailey), Robert (Taylor) and Joshua (Nicole) Wright, Danny and John Elkins; Neil (Jennifer) and William (Shandy) Pittman, Angela (Geoffrey) Murray and great-grandchildren. Trey, Mandy, Morgan, Colbie, Mason, JennaLynn, CaraLynn, Alexander, Benjamin and Samuel.
The family requests gifts to the Lee College Robert Lazenby Wright Scholarship for the Natural Sciences in lieu of flowers.
