Robert Dean Guenther was born February 6, 1936, in Beatrice, Nebraska. He was the second of five children born to Howard and Vivian Guenther. The family moved to Baytown, Texas while Robert was in elementary school. Robert made many lifelong friends in his school days, and graduated from Robert E. Lee high school in 1955.
He enlisted in the Navy upon graduation, and was a Naval Photographer, stationed in Pensacola, Florida. His life changed forever when he met and fell in love with Mary Cooper, who became his wife on November 16, 1956. Their love story continues today, after 64 years of marriage. Their first child, Robert Dean Guenther, Jr., was born the next year, and Robert brought his family home to Baytown after completing his Naval service, where their second son, Roger, was born. Robert was active in his church and community, and was a Little League Coach for many years, impacting so many with his leadership.
After Robert retired in 1998, he and Mary took many driving trips and cruises, and spoiled their grandchildren. Robert also became a scratch golfer, recording five holes-in-one at Chambers County golf course. Robert loved working at their church, Cedar Bayou Grace Methodist, and was a constant, supportive presence there.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Vivian Guenther. He is survived by his sweet Mary, and by his brothers Arlen Guenther, Larry Guenther and his wife, Karey, and Ronnie Guenther, and by his sister, Dolores Craber. His legacy as a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather is carried on in his children and their families: Son Bob and his wife, Christi; son Roger and his wife, Fabiana; grandson Travis and his wife, Lauren Guenther; granddaughter Kendall and her husband, Cameron Brooks; grandson Tyler Guenther, and granddaughter Emily Guenther; and great-grandchildren Ryan and Audrey Guenther.
