Henry Hinton Rosser, 89, of Highlands passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2005 in a Baytown hospital. He was born August 1, 1916, in Linden, Texas to John and Maggie Rosser and moved to Highlands in 1926. Hinton met the love of his life, Mary Estle Robison, in school and married her on March 19, 1937 in Lake Charles, Louisiana. They shared sixty-nine cherished years together.
After growing up working for his father's lumber company, Hinton worked for a short time in Houston before starting his career with the Humble Oil and Refinery Company where he worked as a Engineering Technician until his retirement in 1973. While there, he was involved in innovative design work in oil movement.
Reverend Hinton Rosser was an ordained minister with the South Texas District of the Assemblies of God since 1950. He attended and served in Highlands Assembly of God for many years and was very active in various district roles, the Pleasant Hills Children's Home in Fairfield, Texas and the Laymen's Council of Southwestern University in Waxahachie. He was highly respected as a minister and peacemaker, and leaves a rich Christian heritage to his family and all who knew him.
Henry Hinton Rosser was a man full of love, kindness and integrity that he shared with everyone he met. A mentor to many, his knowledge and wisdom had a profound effect on people's lives. Mr. Rosser was very involved in contributing to his community, including working with the Boy Scouts, the Water Board of Highlands, and the Chamber of Commerce. He was known for his master architecture skills, and designed many homes and over 125 churches in various states. His drawings and hand-carved wood sculptures are a testament to the amazing artist he was. Hinton was a lover of words, expressed through poetry, limericks at the dinner table, and his daily crossword puzzles.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Norine Rosser and Nancy Boenisch, and brothers Hubert Rosser, Lewis Rosser, and Woodrow Rosser, and his son Charles Rosser. He is survived by his wife Mary Estle Rosser, sons Herschel Rosser and wife Lucie of Sugarland and Steve Rosser and wife Carol of Austin; and daughters Gwen Saladin of Spokane, Washington, Patti Rosser of Seattle, Washington, and Jana Rosenbaum of Houston. He also leaves behind his very special grandchildren Mike Saladin, Kristi Hovde, Jan Stachofsky, Jonathon Rosser, David Rosser, Stephen Rosser, Timothy Rosser, Benjamin Rosser, Jana Sue Rosser, Alexis Rosser, Kirby Rosser, Christopher Bolt, Matthew Rosser, Jennifer Rosenbaum, Robbie Rosenbaum, and Laura Rosenbaum. He is survived by brother, Charles Rosser and sister Jane Janac.He is also survived by in-laws Joe Boenisch and Bertie Rosser. He will be greatly missed by his ten great-grandchildren, host of nieces and nephews, family and friends.
The grandsons of Hinton Rosser will honor him as pallbearers, and honorary pallbearers are Marion Caughman, Oswald Harman, Glen Muldrow, and James White.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 25, from 5pm to 7pm at Navarre Funeral Home in Baytown. Funeral services will be held at Greens Bayou Assembly of God Church, 485 Maxey Road in Houston at 2pm on Monday, with internment following at San Jacinto Memorial Cemetery.
