Pauline Conner Wright, of Baytown, Texas, graduated into the loving arms of her Lord and Saviour Monday, March 31, 2015 in Houston, Texas. She was born November 14, 1916, in Dibol, Texas to Frances El Dena George Conner and Floyd P. Conner, the tenth of eleven children. Growing up on a farm, Pauline enjoyed sharing chores and fun times with her many siblings. She had an insatiable curiosity and passion for learning with a creative spirit and a desire to discover the beauty in her surroundings. She graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Baytown in 1936, and married the love of her life, John Layton Wright, Sr., in 1937. He preceded her in death, as did her parents, and ten brothers and sisters.
Pauline was a faithful Christian woman in her community. She loved her church, Central Baptist, where she was a member over 50 years. She was the president and treasurer of the Esther Class for 20 years. She graduated to the Lydia Class, where she served until her move to Houston to live with her daughter, Beverly. She was a resident of Parkway Place at the time of her death.
Pauline’s maternal grandfather was Caleb Bennett George, a Baptist minister, who founded six historical Baptist churches in East Texas. He left a rich, Christian heritage to his family. Pauline loved studying the bible, and lived life daily, according to God’s word. She touched the lives of many people as she shared her faith in Jesus Christ. Her family was very dear to her heart, and she served as a superb role model and mentor to them. She was a loving mother, a doting grandmother, a favorite aunt, a good neighbor and friend. Life became better for others if she was involved. She was a blessing to everyone who was touched by her love and generosity.
Pauline was a dignified lady, a wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker extraordinaire. She was an accomplished seamstress, gifted in designing. Her creations were beautiful. For many years, she was a member of a sewing club in Baytown. Always sweet and gracious, she loved to entertain and spend time with family and friends, and delighted everyone who tasted her culinary creations. She enjoyed baseball, football, dominoes, card games, reading, travel and game shows. She had a green thumb in growing beautiful plants and flowers. Pauline was a retired and respected employee of Sears. She was also a member of the Exxon Club, and The Guild of Houston Baptist University. She had an absolutely wonderful zest for life, and succeeded in most everything she did.
We thank God for our mother’s wonderful life, her teachings and legacy. “Her children rise up and call her blessed”. While mother will be missed very much by all who knew and loved her, we know that she is reunited with our dad, and is home with the Lord in eternal peace. She was the heart and the anchor of our family, always doing what was right. She truly walked the walk.
Pauline is survived by her three children, Polly Wright Carlton and husband, Willie, Beverly Wright Boykin, and husband Mack, Dr. John L. Wright, Jr., and wife, Melinda; grandchildren, Ron Boykin and wife, Glorianne, Luanne Boykin Gerstner, and husband Richard, Brad Carlton and wife, Sky, Jared Wright and wife, Jessica and Karin Sherwood, Sarah Bowen, Lauren Whitson and husband Brian; great-grandchildren, Hannah and Kendall Carlton, Nicholas Leon, Michael Velasquez and Oliver Wick.
