Mike Harris was a faithful husband and father, a devoted family member, and a loyal friend to many throughout his life. He was a true “Jack of all trades” and could build a house, repair a car, cook delicious food, volunteer for any church project, climb oil tanks, repair plumbing - you name it, Mike could do it.
Mike, 76 years old, of Baytown, Texas (also recently of Brenham, Texas), died from a six year valiant fight with Lewy Body Dementia and Parkinson's disease on April 28, 2024.
Mike was born in Teague, Texas, on March 2, 1948, to Jack and Dorthy (Baldree) Harris.
Mike is the brother of Dorothy Marie Harris Myers, Barbara Faye Harris (Billy) Anderson, Julie Kate Harris (Arthur) Farias, Jack (Bud) (Aileen) Harris, and Kenneth Harris.
Mike married Kay Bruton Harris on April 28, 1967. He and Kay enjoyed 42 happy years of marriage together, up to her untimely death on June 30, 2009. Mike met Rosie Forse Vailes through family friends and married on September 10, 2010, and enjoyed 14 wonderful years together.
Mike is the son-in-law of Zeta Helen Stockdick Bruton (Kay’s mother), who loved and cherished him greatly.Mike is also the son-in-law of Elvin and Pearl Forse (Rosie’s parents), however he never got to know these folks before they headed off to their heavenly home.
Mike is brother-in-law to Tony and Sharon Bruton; he has known Tony since he was 11 years old and would hang out at the Bruton house with him growing up. They have had over 50 years of fun and travels together. He is also brother-in-law to Kenny and Sharon (Forse) Fisher and has enjoyed their great company.
Mike and Kay had two children together - Jan and Brian (and wife, Shannon). When he married Rosie in 2010, he was privileged to welcome Rosie’s children Sheri Vailes Wagner (and husband, Steve) and Kevin Vailes (and wife, Dana) into the family.
Mike is a proud uncle to Rodney (and Ramona) Bruton, Darren (and Lori, Lucas, Oliver) Bruton, Ora (and Tony) Farias Nobles, Anthony Farias, Jackie (and Paul) Anderson, Travis Anderson, and Madison Harris.
Mike is a blessed Papa to Mackenzie Sherron, Joshua Harris, and LauraLee DuRee (Shannon’s daughter). He is also a sweet Poppy to Rosie’s grandkids Lane (and Reyna) Vailes, Kevin (and Caitlin) Vailes, Brandy (and Kyler) Vailes Gray, Mackenzy Aills, Jacob Wagner, Connor Wagner, and Madison Vailes. Mike is grand-Poppy to Adeline Vailes, Rayne Gray, Josephine Vailes, Harlow Switzer, and Jackson DuRee.
Mike worked for Exxon Mobil for 42 years as a First-Line Supervisor. After retirement from Exxon, he volunteered for Meals on Wheels and Curt’s Kitchen in Baytown. In Brenham, he volunteered in the parking lot at First Baptist Church and with Bread Partners.
Services for Mike will be held at Navarre Funeral Home on May 3, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel. Internment will follow at Earthman Memory Gardens Cemetery.
