Maxine Elizabeth Spates was born to her biological parents Walter & Della Boutte on 3/19/1927. She was adopted by Roy Michael Fields & her oldest sister Alberta (Birdie) (Boutte) Fields on 10/22/1932. Maxine passed away on 09/05/2023.
She married the love of her life James M. (Sonny) Spates, Jr., of Old Gulf, Texas on 7/2/1949 with 59 1/2 years together before he passed away 12/4/08. They had 5 children.
She is preceded in death by her husband J. M. Spates, Jr., sons Frank and Everett Spates, biological and adopted parents, 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
She is survived by her daughters and their spouses; Kathleen Sausen-Fields, Janet
Crnkovic (William), Lisa Neal (John Sr.). Grandchildren Dustin & (Amber), Nicole Rekieta & (Luke), Amanda Neal & (Tony), John Neal Jr., & (Megan) Christopher Crnkovic & (Reba). She is survived by 5 Great Grandchildren, Ryleigh Crnkovic, Joshua Vance Jr., Wyatt Neal, Evelyn Nicole, Gwen Elizabeth and Hazel Rekieta as well as numerous nieces & nephews and friends.
Maxine worked for several companies in Houston, Texas including Uncle Ben’s Converted Rice, and Graybar Electric Company for 32 years where she retired on 5/1/1992.
She and her parents moved to Tuck Street in March 1937. She attended Resurrection Catholic School also John Marshall Jr. High and graduated from Jefferson Davis Sr. High in May 1945.
Maxine was a member of the Catholic Daughters Mother of Love #2092 for 49 years. She joined the Northeast Deanery and served on the Resurrection School Board for 15 years. She was a recording Secretary of the Diocesan Council of Women and a Correspondent Secretary until July 2021. She became the Financial Secretary for the Catholic Clerical Student Fund. She volunteered for the Ladies Auxiliary at St. Joseph’s Hospital as well as Ladies VFW Auxiliary #8930. She became a Lector, Extra Ordinary Minister of Holy Communion and Sacristan at Resurrection Church. She was still a Sacristan & EOMHC and was doing that until she passed away. She was Co-Chairman of the Liturgy Committee and later became Facilitator/Coordinator for the Liturgy Committee for two years.
Services at Earthman Funeral Home, Baytown, Texas., September 11, 2023, 5pm to 8pm, rosary at 6pm with mass at Resurrection Church 915 Zoe St., Houston, Texas 11am and graveside services to follow Forest Park Lawndale, Houston Texas.
