Mary Louise Woods

Waiting for her was her husband of 70 years, Dr. Richard Woods, who had gone before her on June 6, 2012. What a joyful reunion for the two who loved one another since they were 15 years old. Richard spent the last four years of his life tenderly caring for his wife.

Mary was a loving wife, mother, ""Mammer"", sister, and aunt. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her joy – always perfect and ""sweet babies"" in her eyes. She was a fabulous cook, homemaker, loving wife, teacher, and life counselor to many. Hospitality was her spiritual gift, and everyone who entered her home was an honored guest. She was a faithful member of Cedar Bayou Baptist Church all of her adult life, serving as teacher, deacon's wife, and WMU president. For many years she worked alongside her husband as he practiced dentistry for over 50 years in Baytown.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Della Mitchell, and her husband Dr. Richard Woods. Mary is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and David Green of Friendswood and Cynthia and Gary Balmain of College Station; grandchildren and their spouses, Cynthia and Collin Hieger of Nassau Bay, John David Green of Houston, Clint and Jennifer Balmain of League City and Kristin Balmain of College Station; great grandchildren, Conner Hieger and Evan and Audrey Balmain; sister, Maxine McAdams of Houston; nieces and nephew, Diane and Gregg McAdams of San Antonio and Houston and Verna Ruth Jones of Baytown.

We give special thanks and are forever grateful to her caretakers and friends, Eunice and Carl Smiley, who lovingly cared for Dr. Richard and Ms. Mary to the end. Other loving caretakers whom the family wishes to thank are Gemis Lewis and Mimi Palafox.

The Family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home on Friday, March 8, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Services will be held Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Dr. Mark Broussard and Rev. Jim Stevens officiating. Burial will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Memory Gardens.
