Anita Jeffrey, 85, of Baytown passed away on Wednesday, February 13, 2013. Anita was born on October 1, 1927 in Pursley, TX to Alvie and Rhoda Freeze. She was the youngest of five children raised on the Freeze farm; this led her to be quite the tom boy. Throughout the years she has entertained many with her stories of adventure on the family farm, and living through the great depression.
Anita's favorite hobby was gardening and she was a member of the Dirt Gardeners Garden Club. She was a long time member of Cedar Bayou Baptist Church. She also enjoyed travel. She was truly the matriarch of the family, especially after her first husband passed away. Anita loved her family dearly, and they adored her. She will be truly missed.
Anita is preceded in death by her parents; and her husbands, Richard Matthews and Grady Jeffrey; her sister, Nola Jones; her brothers, Levie, Oliver and Leonard Freeze; great granddaughter, Kayli Matthews; and two nieces. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Linda and Thomas Cottar; son and daughter-in-law, David and Vickie Matthews; step-son, Jimmy Jeffrey and his wife, Karen; step-daughters, Janice Whitaker, and her husband, Joel, and Debbie Nelson and her husband, Bruce; twelve grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Mary Slater and her husband, Ronnie; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday, February, 15, 2013 from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Navarre Funeral home, with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. Dr. E. Richard Steele and Dr. Mark Broussard will officiate. There will be a graveside service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February, 16, 2013 at the New Pursley Cemetery in Pursley, TX.
