Mary Helen Barber Himsel, 86, Baytown, Texas, was received into the arms of Jesus, November 23, 2017. She was born January 5, 1931, in Washington, Indiana, to Fred and Mae Barber. She graduated from Washington High School in 1949, and after a 6 year courtship married Marvin Himsel on October 6, 1953, in Hudsonville, Indiana. During Marvin’s service in the Air Force, Mary loved living in Englewood, Colorado. After his service, they made their home in Washington, Indiana, and were blessed with three sons, Mark, David, and John. They owned and operated the Himsel Family Apple Orchard until Marvin’s job with Texas Eastern moved the family to Lebanon, Ohio for 7 years, and then to Baytown, Texas, where they made their home for the past 46 years.
Mary and Marvin quickly found a church home and were welcomed into Baytown First Church of the Nazarene where they have been members 46 years. Mary was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Mae Barber, and brothers, John, Bernard, and Maurice Barber. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Marvin Himsel; sons, Mark and his wife Debbie Himsel, David Himsel and John Himsel; grandchildren, Sarah and Blake Barr, Amanda and Nikolos Manesh, Andrew and Ruth Himsel, Keely Himsel, Lindsey Himsel, Lauren Himsel, and Adam Himsel; great-grandchildren Oliver, Katherine and Charlotte Barr; Mackenzie Himsel-Scott and Madeline Manesh, and Luke Himsel. She is survived by sisters Erma Padgett of Washington, Indiana, and Norma Waggoner of Charleston, South Carolina. She is also survived by an extended family of nieces, nephews and their families.
The family will receive visitors on Sunday, November 26, 2:00-4:00 PM, at Navarre Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be Monday, November 27, 10:00 AM, with Rev. Brance Moyer and Rev. Dave Jirrels officiating.
Burial will follow at Cedarcrest Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Andrew Himsel, Adam Himsel, Blake Barr, Nikolos Manesh, Brandon Accomando and Oliver Barr.
The family would like to express gratitude for her medical care to Dr. Greg Terry, Dr. Edward Leahey, Dr. Pamela Medellin and Dr. Robert Leggington.
