Martha attended Iota, Louisiana High School lettering in basketball. After high school she was practicing nursing at American Legion hospital in Crowley, Louisiana where she the love of her life, Eugene R. LeBlanc. They were married in 1957 while Gene was still in the Navy and she followed him to Bremerton, Washington until his ‘tour of duty’ was over.
Over the course of the next 8 years, Gene and Martha had 6 children and raised Martha’s youngest brother, Charles Bourgeois due to the passing of both of her parents. In 1966, Gene and Martha settled in Nederland, Texas until 1978 when the LeBlanc family relocated to Baytown, Texas and resides there today.
While in Nederland, Texas, Martha was a “mother of all” in the local community and a very active parishioner of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. In 1981, Martha became the wife of the deacon in the Catholic Church ordained by Bishop Bernard Ganter of the Beaumont Diocese. I mention this so that others know it was always Martha’s vocation to the Catholic faith, as well as, Gene’s. Upon moving to Baytown in 1978 through 1989 Martha was a very active member of St John Catholic Community in Baytown with dad serving as deacon.
In 1989, Gene and Martha were instrumental in the formation of a Catholic Community in Mont Belvieu, Texas. Holy Trinity Catholic Mission was formed under the leadership of Rev. Kevin Badeaux and Our Lady of Light Catholic Church in Anahuac in 1991 and later became a Parish of the Diocese of Beaumont. All of this made possible under the love and nurturing and care of Martha and Gene to make the Parish of Holy Trinity what it is today. During the course of Martha's adult life, she has mentored, counseled, encouraged and led many to the Catholic Faith through her loving, kind, and gentle spirit.
Over the course of the last 2 years, Martha's disease has progressed to point of requiring several visits per week to MD Anderson Cancer Center.
There are two very special loving souls that Martha has been blessed to have as support and strength during her time of need. The entire family would like to express our deepest love and gratitude for Madonna Berry and Nancy Johnson. These two heaven sent souls have shown us all what “love thy neighbor” is all about and in doing so have made themselves a part of our extended family. They have both, without hesitation and through love of Martha continuously cared for and spent many long days taking care of Martha to and from Houston for all her medical needs and were there for the family at home also.
It would be very unfair to not express that same love and gratitude for the husbands of Madonna and Nancy, Mr. Michael Berry and Mr. Neal Johnson for the sacrifices they made while their beautiful wives cared for our mother, wife, grandmother, and great grandmother. We are forever grateful.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 from 5:00 pm - 8:30 pm with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm. Funeral mass will take place on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at 2:00 pm at St. John Catholic Church, 800 W Baker Road Baytown, TX 77521.
