

Marlin Duane Van Dasselaar, 74, of Baytown, Texas, was welcomed to heaven on December 20, 2023. Born on January 28, 1949, to Margarete and Richard Duane Van Dasselaar in Worthington, Minnesota, Marlin's life was a narrative of love, family, and cherished moments.
Preceded in death by his parents, siblings Diane Collins and Harlin Van Dasselaar, and his son Richard Van Dasselaar. Marlin leaves behind a legacy of love and enduring memories for his beautiful wife Brenda, his daughter Cyndi Smith and his siblings, Sheryle Rose and Patricia Ward, along with an abundance of family members, colleagues and friends.
Marlin graduated in 1967 from Bellflower Christian Academy, where he excelled in football and proudly lettered in the sport. His dedication and work ethic continued into his professional life as he embarked on a successful career in grocery retail. Over four decades, Marlin managed various grocery stores and eventually retired as the Manager of Food Town in Baytown.
On June 17, 1982, Marlin married the love of his life, Brenda. Their love story began with an immediate and undeniable connection, leading Marlin to propose on their second date. Marlin's quiet strength complemented Brenda's fun and outgoing personality, creating a harmonious bond that stood the test of time.
Their love story was not only a journey through the years but also a reflection to the enduring nature of a bond built on trust, laughter, and a profound understanding of each other. Marlin and Brenda's shared experiences, whether in the routine of daily life or the excitement of new adventures, created a rich tapestry of memories that will forever be cherished.

His strategic mind and quick thinking made him a master of these games, providing entertainment and laughter for those around him. His love for television shows such as NCIS, FBI, Bold and Beautiful, and Young and Restless added a dynamic rhythm to his days. Sundays held a special place in Marlin's heart as he faithfully tuned in to watch his beloved Texans play, adding excitement to his weekends.
In the great outdoors, Marlin harbored a deep passion for travel. He explored the vibrant cities of Austin and San Antonio in Texas, ventured to the scenic landscapes of Arizona and California, and revisited his roots in Minnesota, savoring the beauty and diversity each destination offered. Marlin also set sail to the seas, navigating the crystal-clear waters of the Bahamas and experiencing the breathtaking vistas of Alaska.
Marlin enjoyed gardening, his love for nurturing and growing rose bushes, with a special fondness for the vibrant orange roses. Each bloom was a testament to his patience and dedication, mirroring the beauty he cultivated in every aspect of his life.
Marlin's sweet tooth found delight in Blue Bell Ice Cream, with Pistachio Almond as his absolute favorite flavor. The half-gallon of this cherished treat became a symbol of the simple joys that brought happiness to Marlin's life.
