Mark Wynn Tipton, 60, of Baytown, passed away at his home on Thursday, August 20, 2009. Mark was born in Baytown on August 9, 1949 to Clyde and Alene Tipton and was a lifelong resident of Baytown, Texas. He was a 1968 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School in Baytown and also attended Lee College. While in college, Mark was a member of the Rho Epsilon Beta society. Mark was a member of First Christian Church in Baytown.
Mark was preceded in death by his mother, Alene Tipton and his brother, Colby Tipton. He is survived by his father, Clyde Tipton of Trinity; daughter, Alicia Tipton and Bryant Stephens, Jr.; daughter, Tammie Tipton and Chris Motley all of Baytown; son, Brian Tipton and Shannon Clarke of Baytown; sister, Chris Fowler of Round Rock; mother of his children, Margaret Lannou Tipton of Baytown; grandchildren, Kayleigh Stephens, Kaylnn Stephens, Briana McCormick, Krista Motley, Kyleigh Motley, Kasen Wynn Motley, Brooke Tipton, Brittany Monceaux, Hannah Tipton, Kalex Motley, April Tipton, Kayla Bresett, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In his junior high years, Mark enjoyed playing as a Cedar Bayou Bear football player. He also loved the game of baseball and played the position of catcher on little league teams and also throughout his high school years. Mark enjoyed years as a boy scout and with his mother serving as den mother.
Mark retired from Exxon Company in September 2002 after 30 plus years of service as a boiler maker and Computer CAD designer. Mark arranged a special field trip for his wife's Alice Johnson Junior High computer class. His son remembers the shock on Exxon employee faces when the yellow school bus drove into the central shop. The students were given a tour of the entire shop by Mark. While driving down the road beside Exxon Company, he would sometimes show his children some of the towers built in the plant that he had designed. He would say that he left his mark in Exxon. Mark was also honored to be a member of Exxon Fire Department Team 11 for over ten plus years in which he was nicknamed ""Two Dog"" by his fellow Exxon firefighters.
Known to his grandkids as ""Gramps"" he was a very dedicated, devoted and loving son, brother, father, grandfather and friend to many. He loved his kids and grandchildren with all his heart and his love for his dog ""Rocky"" was obvious to all.
Mark was an avid fisherman in his earlier days and passed this passion on to his children. Mark and his family would go to Lake Livingston to his parent's home several times a month to fish. In addition, his family would shrimp in their boat, which Mark soon learned was a lot of hard work. Mark had a wish to ride on Gordon Lannou's 60 ft shrimp boat. He absolutely loved cutting trees and splitting wood with his father at Lake Livingston. He always wanted to make sure ""Pe Pa"" had plenty of wood for the winter.
He loved to cook and barbeque for his family. Mark would draw or complete crossword puzzles for hours in his rocking chair. He supported his children and grandchildren in all their activities. Additionally, he would design and build anything for his kids. He was a true craftsman. Mark was a very loving and always giving, kind, and passionate man who will be deeply missed.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, August 24, 2009 at Navarre Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, August 25, 2009, in the Chapel of Navarre Funeral Home with Reverend Bob Dees officiating. At Mark's request, he will be cremated and his ashes spread throughout Lake Livingston, at his parent's home.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Brian Tipton, Robert Lannou, Brent Tipton, David Morgan, Buddy Smith, Curtis Smith, and Robert Fairchild.
