Mariane Clinton Nunez, a life-long resident of Baytown, TX, died unexpectedly on December 16, 2016, at the age of 80, while visiting family. She was born on June 23, 1936, to Lucille Green and Lucian Clinton, in Jourdanton, Texas. Mariane had three younger siblings: Tommy, Barbara and JoAnne. They moved to Morgan’s Point while she was just a child. At a young age an illness caused her to lose her hearing. An antibiotic that was administered to her caused her to go deaf, and the Dr. swore she would never hear again. At that point, is where she taught herself how to lip read. Little did she know, great things were to come. Mariane graduated LaPorte High School and then attended Lee College where she completed a training program in Data Processing. Later she went on to obtain a cosmetology license. In 1958, she married Rene Hershel Nunez Sr, and moved to Baytown. That is where she had two beautiful children; Dorene Nunez and Rene Hershel Nunez Jr. Mariane worked as a beautician and data processer. She also worked for Hallmark and sold Avon for about 25 years. Mariane was very active in her community and attended church at Maranatha and was involved in local church activities. She lived life for her grandkids; making sure they were always taken care of. She was an avid reader of mystery and romance novels. She also loved to crochet, and work any kind of puzzle. At the age of 70, the very same Dr. that said she would never hear again, called to give her the news that she was eligible for a “discovery” that could make her a recipient for a cochlear implant. Incredibly, they found her left auditory nerve still worked. This surgery was such an emotional time for everyone involved, when she could hear her first sounds in over 53 years. However, the first attempt was not as successful as the second one. Five years later, that first implant failed and she elected to once again go through the process of surgery and she was able to hear even better than the time before. The last ten years of her life she listened to music constantly, talk radio assisted her in developing better hearing skills. In 2008, when hurricane Ike took her house, she moved to New Hampshire to live with her son. She loved living there, and was able to travel to many places. She enjoyed time in St. Croix staying at her son’s family residence. She also had many friends all over the United States, Canada and around the world. Before leaving us, she returned to her original home area to visit her family. She spent wonderful hours with her brother and sister and their families and with her own grandkids and great grandkids, whom she loved very much and considered her biggest joy in life. Mariane lived a life full of love and giving. She was a true example of how one should live their life. Mariane is survived by her son: Rene Hershel Nunez, Jr; brother, Tommy Clinton; sister, Barbara Farrugia and husband Joe; grandson, John Miller; granddaughter, Jennifer Sparks and fiancé Josh Turner; four great grandkids and numerous loving family and friends. She is preceded in death by her mother Lucille Green; father, Lucian Clinton; husband, Rene Hershel Nunez Sr.; daughter, Dorene Carter; and sister JoAnne Truman. A visitation will be held from 5-8:00 p.m. on December 22 at Earthman’s Baytown Funeral Home. A funeral service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on December 23 at the same place. Directly following is a burial service at Earthman’s Memory Gardens on Garth Rd.
