Maria Magdalena Cortez de Estrada of Baytown, TX, formerly from Lubbock, TX, was born on June 9, 1925, in Ciudad Musquiz Coahuila, Mexico, to Josefa Hernandez Maltos and Pedro Cortez being the only daughter of five children, entered into eternal life Monday, October 10, 2011, in her home surrounded by her loving family.
Through her life she served in many roles such as being a migrant worker, YWCA worker, and homemaker. She also donated of her time to community services reaching out to the underserved in addition to serving at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church in many roles throughout the years, however what she was most proud of was being a mother. She was a devout Catholic who loved Our Lady de Guadalupe. Magdalena loved gardening, boasting about the 197 different types of roses which she had in her garden.
Magdalena was preceded in death by her parents, spouse Rodolfo Estrada, twelve infant children and Willie Coy who she considered a son, brothers Geronimo Cortez, Jose Maria Cortez, and Francisco Cortez; grandchild Xavier Estrada and Daniel Galvan; and son-in-laws Cesario Torres and Reymundo Montoya.
Those left to cherish her memory include her brother Jesus Fuentes of Fort Worth Texas; sons Jesse Estrada and Ana Maria from La Porte, TX, Amabilia (Amy) Picon and Jack from Lubbock, TX, Dolores Torres (Lola) from Lubbock, TX, Rodolfo (Rudy) Estrada, Jr. and Sandy from Highlands, TX, Olga Alicia Arteaga Estrada and Jose from Baytown, TX, Alberto (Albert) Estrada and Diane from Hamilton, Alabama, Miroslava (Kena) Torrez and Eddie from Lubbock, TX, Jorge (George) Estrada and Jackie from Crown Point, Indiana, Obdulia (Lulu)Montoya from Baytown, TX, Ramses (Joe) Estrada and Maribel from Baytown, TX, Ottoniel (Otto) Estrada and Michelle from Baytown, TX, and Javier (Bear) Estrada and Christina from Baytown, TX; 35 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
The Holy Rosary will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. Earthman Funeral Chapel 3919 Garth Road, Baytown, Texas 77521, and Holy Catholic Mass will be held Thursday, October 13, 2011 at 10:00 a.m at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church 1907 Carolina, Baytown, Texas 77520. The primary pallbearers are Michael Estrada, Rudy Estrada III, Niko Estrada, John Estrada, Joshua Montoya, Ken Torres, and Adam Estrada and the honorary pallbearers are Jason Torrez, Christopher Estrada, Arron Estrada, Jack Picon, Eddie Torrez, Dolores (Loli) Aretega.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be given to M.D. Anderson in Houston, Texas, Breast Cancer Research, and Hospice Faith Charity of Baytown, Texas.
Maria Magdalena Estrada was a gift and a blessing lent to us from God. Her family and friends have also been a blessing through their support. The Estrada Family would like to extend their gratitude for all your support.
