Lucy Sanders Parks, 68 - devoted wife, loving mother, trusted friend, and the light of many lives - died on Sunday, August 22, 2010, after a yearlong battle with cancer. Born December 21, 1941, Lucy was a lifelong Baytown resident, a member of First Baptist Church, a 1960 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School, and a Bayer employee for 39 years.
Lucy was known for her love of life, her love of traveling the world with her best friends Nancy and Shem, her passion for watching the stars, her obsession with the Texas Longhorns, and her cravings for Mexican food. She had a gift of making everyone in her path feel special, and she loved to spoil her ""babies"", Muggsey, Chi-Chi, Bella, and Hobie Cat.
She was preceded in death by her parents, W. C. ""Happy"" and Dimple Sanders and husband of 22 years, Bobby Joe Parks. She is survived by her children, Kimberly Prince Auzenne of Highlands, Dina Prince McCartney and husband, Russell of Highlands, and Carl Prince of New York, NY; stepchildren, Judy Parks of Blue Ridge, GA, Joe Bob Parks of Houston, and Kathy Molson of Houston; brother, Rev. Hugh A. McMurrain of Oklahoma City, OK; sisters, Marieva Priess of Houston, Carol Peterson of El Dorado Hills, CA, and Paula Barcik of Kingwood; grandchildren, Krystal Phillips and husband, Eric, Hunter McCartney, Lauren Bransom and husband, Mack, Zachary File, Chloe File, Erica Molson, Adam Molson, and Samual Davis; great granddaughter, Libby Phillips; and many friends.
Her family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Thursday, August 26, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Navarre Funeral Home with her brother, Rev. Hugh A. McMurrain officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarcrest Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Hunter McCartney, Zachary File, Eric Phillips, Mack Bransom, Gregg Ueckert, and Allan McMurrain.
In lieu of flowers and as tribute to her many selfless and compassionate care-givers at San Jacinto Methodist and Triumph Hospitals, the family has established a scholarship fund at Lee College for students pursuing a career in nursing -- a profession she came to greatly admire and respect.
