Knox Tennent Beavers, age 90, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 22, 2007, after a long illness. He was born to Noah Newton Beavers and Hazeltine Latham Beavers on September 30, 1917 in Scott County, Mississippi. Knox T., as he was fondly called by family and friends, moved to Baytown, Texas, at a very young age and attended Baytown Junior High, Robert E. Lee High School (Class of 1936), and Lee College. He graduated with from Mississippi State University in 1942 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. He was a member of Tau Beta Pi (Honorary Engineering Fraternity) and Sigma Chi. He started his career at Humble Oil and Refining Company in 1942 and retired from Exxon Chemicals in 1982. Mr. Beavers was civic-minded and was affiliated with the Rotary Club of Baytown (60 years perfect attendance, Past President, Paul Harris Fellow), Baytown Jaycees, Baytown Chamber of Commerce, Baytown Water Authority, Goose Creek Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees, and the Goose Creek Country Club where he was an avid golfer. He served as a Deacon at Memorial Baptist Church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Polly Reed Beavers; daughters and their husbands: Diana & Scott Bresk, Kay & Tom Clanton, and Libby & Scott Huntington; grandchildren: Kelly Clanton Holton, Laura Clanton Seelig, John Huntington, and Mary Claire Huntington; one great-grandchild: Knox Thomas Holton; one brother: James L. (Popeye) Beavers; and a special daughter: Merla Kramer. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Jane King, Doree Burnett, and Noah Beavers, Jr.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 26th, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Navarre Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, December 27th, at Memorial Baptist Church followed by graveside services at Memory Gardens. Honorary pallbearers are the members of the Rotary Club of Baytown.
The Beavers family would like to thank Dr. Chris Hays and the staff at San Jacinto Methodist Hospital, Baytown, Texas, and Dr. Nadim Nasir at The Methodist Hospital, Houston, Texas, for the care given to our loved one.
