Ken was born May 10, 1930 in New Orleans Louisiana, where he lived for 14 years. He then moved to Tallulah, Louisiana where he graduated from high school. During the Korean War he went into the army for two years. He spent much of his time in Okinawa.
After his service years he moved to Beaumont, Texas where he worked as a television technician and entered Lamar University. He received his Bachelors degree in 1964 then went on to receive his Masters Degree in 1968 from Sam Houston State University.
In 1964 he moved to Baytown, Texas, and started work as a teacher for Goose Creek, first at Highlands Elementary, then Dezavala, then Baytown Junior where he spent most of his career. He retired in 1992, but didn't quit teaching. He worked almost every day as a substitute until he contracted ALS in 2005. He loved his job.
Ken was preceded in death by one baby daughter Leah Donovan and his parents, John and Ruth Donovan. He leaves behind his wife of 44 years, Grace Donovan; son Jason Donovan and his wife Denise; son Doug Donovan and his wife Tracy. He also is survived by five grandchildren, Will Donovan, Sara Donovan, Connor Donovan, Jacob Donovan, and James Donovan.
Ken loved his family, his church, teaching school, playing the piano, playing games, working on the computer, and life in general. He was always willing to help anyone who needed a helping hand. He truly lived by the golden rule.
Ken was an active member of Memorial Baptist Church, where he played the piano in his Sunday School Department. He was also a member of Phi Mu Alpha Symphonians, Texas Retired Teacher's Association, and a life member of Texas State Teacher's Association.
A memorial service has been scheduled by Navarre Funeral Home at Memorial Baptist Church on Wednesday, September 23 at 10:00 am. Visitation will be immediately prior to the memorial service starting at 9:00 am at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the ALS Association - Development Department, 27001 Agoura Road, Suite 250, Calabasas Hills, CA 91301
