Nancy Karen Conger Elledge passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 9th, 2023, in The Woodlands, Texas. She was born on June 2, 1941, in Houston, Texas. She is survived by her son, Chris Elledge, and fiancé Christene Wood; her daughter Julie Powers and her husband Jeff; Granddaughter Christy Steiger and her husband Garrett; and her great grandchildren, Freya Leigh, Soren John, and Signy Elice Steiger.
She is preceded in death by the love of her life, Ralph Elledge, her parents George Thomas and Mary Allen Conger and her grandson John Clayton.
Karen and Ralph owned Baytown Valve and Fitting. They were community leaders who supported numerous charities, almost always anonymously.
Karen was active in “The Welcome Wagon” of Grace Methodist Church. Karen was an amazing cook, and many of her recipes were shared in The Baytown Sun. Karen was also generous to many people and was gratified to help them behind the scenes. Karen was an avid, competitive bridge player (she won most of the time!). She loved gardening, reading and keeping her home beautiful inside and out. She was very creative with arts and crafts, such as stained glass, sewing, knitting, and quilting.
Ralph and Karen raised Shetland Sheep Dogs together and excelled in competition. They had the top winning Sheltie not once, but twice in the nation. They also raised miniature horses. Travel was a source of joy for them both. One of their favorite trips was to attend the World Rotary Convention in Australia. Ralph was representing his Baytown Rotary Club as its President.
Karen’s greatest joy was being “the luckiest girl in the world” as Ralph’s wife. Karen delighted in being a stay-at-home mom. She was very involved in the lives of her children and took great happiness in their activities. She was a Den mother, a homeroom mother, Little League team mom, and a Girl Scout volunteer. She adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
