Joy spent her early life in Chattanooga volunteering in her church and in the community. She enjoyed reading, playing bridge, horseback riding, and traveling. She graduated from Hollins College in Virginia. She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church of Baytown for 45 years and enjoyed serving her church and the Lord. Most of all she loved caring for her family.
Joy was preceded in death by her parents, Carlton and Esther Wright; aunt, Robie Cross and her cousins, Crystal Jenkins and Mary Kay Chapman. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Charles Cody; son, Tom Cody and wife Alisa; daughters, Diane Harper and husband Bob, and Laura Dyer and husband Michael; grandchildren, Joe and Jackie Harper, Drew and Ben Cody, and Christopher and Cameron Dyer.
A visitation will be held Thursday, December 5, 2013 from 5p.m.-7p.m. at Memorial Baptist Church Chapel 600 W. Sterling St. Baytown, TX 77520. Funeral Services will be held at Memorial Baptist Church Chapel Friday, December 6, 2013 at 2p.m. Burial will be at the Houston National Cemetery on a later date.
Her family extends thanks and gratitude for the many prayers, cards, and calls from friends and to Dr. Greg Terry and the doctors, nurses, and support staff of the ICU of San Jacinto Methodist Hospital for the care they provided to Joy during her illness.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the mission programs of Memorial Baptist Church.
