Jocelyn Walzel was welcomed home by the Lord in the early morning hours of July 31, 2023. She passed peacefully, having lived a rich life to 96 years of age. She rejoins her parents, brothers and sisters, and her husband in God's Kingdom.
Jocelyn Meyer was born to Edward and Emma Meyer on November 28, 1926, in Brenham, Texas. She was the youngest of six siblings and enjoyed an easy-going childhood full of family and bluebonnets. In 1945, Jocelyn graduated from high school in Richmond, TX, training and entering the working world as a nursing assistant at Sugar Land Hospital. In September 1946, she met the love of her life, Victor C. Walzel of Beasley, Texas. The two married on February 15, 1947, and had two daughters and two sons.
After moving to Baytown with her husband, Jocelyn supported her growing family as a full-time homemaker. She excelled as a mentor to her children, was an expert seamstress, and had a proclivity for tending to her gardens. A lover of small, beautiful things, Jocelyn built a warm family home full of blossoming flowers, intimate conversations, and gentle mornings listening to little birds sing on the patio. She attended Grace Bible Church of Baytown and lived her life guided by the love of the Lord. After her children were grown, Jocelyn embarked on a second career as co-founder of Walzel Insurance Agency. She enjoyed helping others as a Germania Insurance agent. Jocelyn spent her sunset years at the Waterford Senior Living home in Baytown, TX where she created a space just as full of love as her home was.
Jocelyn was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Evelyn Anderson, Lula Luetge, and Laverne Barfield, brothers Burney and Wilbur (Billy) Meyer, and her husband of 65 years Victor C. Walzel. She is survived by sons Gerald L. Walzel of Pierre, South Dakota; Brian K. Walzel of Centennial, Colorado; daughters Annette Sceets and Marietta McCormack both of Baytown, TX; and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
The Walzel family would like to pass their sincerest thanks to her caregivers Virginia, Mary and Sally and to Harbor Hospice for caring for Mom during her time with them.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to the charity of your choice or one of the following: Grace Bible Church, Baytown, TX, John Hagee Ministries, or Still Creek Ranch, Bryan TX.
Visitation with the family will be held from 10:30 am - 12 pm, on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at Navarre Funeral Home, 2444 Rollingbrook Dr., Baytown, Texas 77521, followed by a private interment at a later date.
