Jay F. Nielson, 90, of Baytown was born August 8, 1928, in Washington, DC and passed away Tuesday, September 25, 2018, in a local healthcare facility. He was a U. S. Army veteran where he served on the USS Rendova as a member of the Army Chemical Corps. He was a graduate of the University of Pittsburg and retired from Gulf Oil as a chemist. He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Virginia Nielson; children, Sharen Belt, Alan McArdle, Deborah Flora, and Kevin McArdle and wife, Patricia; grandchildren and their spouses, Joshua and Kathy Belt, Nicholas and Julie Belt, Matthew McArdle, Bryan Flora, Jennifer McArdle, Colt McArdle, Vivian Slack, and Barbara Kellum; and great grandchildren, Jacob, Lucas, Brandon, Alexus, and Cainan Belt, Austin and Riley Soukhakian, McKenna Slack, Kynlee Kellum, and Gauge Smith.
His family will receive friends at the Memorial Baptist Church chapel, 600 W. Sterling Ave., Baytown, TX 77520, on Friday, September 28, 2018, beginning at 10:00 a.m. with a funeral to follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Randy Piatt officiating. Entombment with military honors will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Kevin McArdle, Joshua Belt, Nicholas Belt, Bryan Flora, Colt McArdle, and Tim Lubojasky.
