Jack Allen Morton, 81, went to his heavenly home Wednesday, December 1, 2004 in Baytown, TX. He was born in New Hope, AR on June 4, 1923.
Jack graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Port Arthur, TX, then served in WWII and was honored with the Distinguished Flying Cross and an Air Medal with 3 Oak Clusters due to service as a Tail Gunner on a B17. He was discharged as a Staff Sergeant in 1945.
He graduated from the University of Colorado with a degree in Civil Engineering, which he used while employed by the cities of Port Arthur, Waco, and Baytown. He was also employed by Jefferson County as County Engineer and retired from Harris County as Construction Engineer in 1990. Jack served as President of the Texas Water Utilities Commission and Past President of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers.
Jack was married to Louise Nash Morton for 59 years and prided himself on a long, happy marriage. Jack and Louise have four children: Mike and Barbara Morton of Lumberton, TX, Greg and Kim Morton of Aurora, CO, Ronnie and Molly Johnston of College Station, TX, and Ken Morton of Sacramento, CA. They have four grandchildren: Joshua, Katie, and Sage Johnston and Matthew Morton, all of whom brought great pride and happiness to Jack.
Jack was not only a faithful husband and father but also faithfully served his Lord as a member and Deacon at Memorial Baptist Church in Baytown.
His love for life aside from his family included fishing, hunting, camping, and woodworking.
Louise and her family will receive visitors at Navarre Funeral Home Friday evening from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. A celebration of Jack’s Life will be Saturday, December 4, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. at Navarre Funeral Home with Rev. Brad Hoffman officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery with military honors.
Serving as pallbearers will be Mike Morton, Greg Morton, Ken Morton, Ronnie Johnston, Joshua Johnston, Matthew Morton, George Hodges, and C. R. Nash. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of Memorial Baptist Church.
In lieu of usual remembrances, contributions may be made to Memorial Baptist Church, 600 W. Sterling Ave., Baytown, TX 77520 and/or Odyssey Center for Hospice Care, 1600 James Bowie Dr., Suite C101, Baytown, TX 77520.
