George Walmsley was a 1944 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School where he was an All-American football star and was inducted into the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame in Waco. He received his BS degree in Biology from Rice University in 1948 where he continued his outstanding athletic career both in football and track as a freshman, winning first place in the 100 yard dash for the old Southwest Conference in 1945. George was the recipient of the George Martin Award while starting as a freshman halfback on the football team. He was a proud member of the 1946 Orange Bowl Team that beat Tennessee. His athletic successes culminated with his induction into the Rice Athletic Hall of Fame. He received his MS degree from the University of Houston in 1950, and his Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Texas Medical School at Galveston in 1954. From 1955-1957 he served in the United States Air Force as a flight surgeon. Dr. Walmsley's decision to set up his Family Practice in Baytown was inspired by the love and support he received from the community and church of his youth. His response to this outreach was to serve his community and church in a variety of ways. He was one of the organizers of the Gulf Coast Hospital and practiced medicine for 40 years.
Dad's life was filled with love - love for God, unconditional love for family, and unwavering love for country. His activities were influenced by this and were an extension of his heart. Dad's greatest memories he gave himself and his family were made on Trinity Bay at Lagniappe, the bay place he and his love built together over 50 years ago. It gave them more than a little something extra and leaves us with a whole lot more-- a piece of himself for generations to come. Dad always said, ""Pray daily, love those with whom you live, do what has to be done, and leave the results to God."" We believe Dad got it right.
