George Wesley (Wes) Collier, Jr. passed July 15, 2021, at the age of 68, in Houston, Texas. Wes was born February 23, 1953, in Baytown, Texas, to the late George Collier, Sr. and Corine Pace Collier. He had one brother, the late Jerry Don Collier.
While attending Robert E. High school in Baytown, Texas, Wes met his sweetheart, the late Jana Leigh Fayle, who became his wife of 34 years. Wes and Jana had two beloved children, Lindsay Leigh Ann Collier Sparks and George Wesley (G.W.) Collier, III. Lindsay and her husband, Jason Sparks, have two wonderful boys, Brandt and Weston Sparks. G.W. and his wife, Kirby Ferguson Collier, have two beautiful children, Caroline and George Wesley Collier, IV.
Wes married Marcia Fayle Stewart in 2010. Wes included his stepdaughters, Jordan Stewart Kane and Mary Stewart Ciscon as his own, together with their husbands, Gaurav Kane and Jonathan Ciscon. Avni Grace Kane, daughter of Jordan and Gaurav, was a loved and celebrated granddaughter to Wes.
The biggest joy in Wes’s life was watching all his precious grandchildren grow and become strong individuals.
Wes’ family also included his brothers-in-law Robert Fayle and Ross Martin, sisters-in-law Judy Font, Linda Martin, Janet Fayle, Sunni Collier, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, including his special cousin Deborah Yocham, who always lit up his day. His family also included his many beloved friends.
Wes devoted 36 years of his life to Exxon Chemical and loved his work family without measure. Wes became a father figure to many of the younger men and women there and never hesitated to help when needed and to remind everyone to work safely. He loved his fellow humans of every size, shape, background, gender or position in life. If you are reading this and you knew Wes, you can be sure he found you fascinating. He also loved to travel, wander, or simply just get lost. Mont Belvieu, Turkey, College Station, Israel, Leakey, Hawaii - he loved them all, and found friends wherever he went.
Animals were also incredibly special to Wes. He once killed (in self-defense) a wild boar and then tried to resuscitate it. But mostly he loved his special dogs, cats, turtles, horses, and cows. Wes loved flying, aircraft of all sorts, and other pilots. He loved stories and was full of stories of his own, of his and G.W.’s hunting and fishing adventures, of growing up as an independent little boy in Baytown, life on the river, life with Jana and her keen mothering instincts. Wes had so very many stories. He also loved country music, Western movies, old black and white TV shows of the 50’s and 60’s, and Chevrolets. A John Denver song could bring him to tears or a poignant scene from the Andy Griffith Show.
Wes was a proud, endowed member of the Masons of Old River No. 1442 in Mont Belvieu, Texas.
Serving Wes as his pallbearers will be Jason Sparks, Ryan Hall, Geraldo Solis, Richard McKinney, Gary Gates, and James Griffen. Wes’ family wishes to thank those very special individuals who have cared for Wes in recent years, Dr. Mohammad Attar, M.D., Geraldo Solis, and Tish Clark.
