He was a proud Merchant Marine During WWII. In 1982 he retired from EXXON-Mobile. He enjoyed knitting prayer shawls and baby blankets for anyone who asked him.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Hazel Burgess and 4 brothers.
He is survived by his brother, Maynard Burgess, two daughters, Dana Smith and husband Gary, and Tena Burgess, a grandson, Brett Smith, as well as numerous other family members and friends.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at Earthman Funeral Home Chapel from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Funeral services will be at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 712 Schilling St., Baytown, Tx 77520, officiated by Pastor Nancy Simpson, on Thursday, September 27, 2012 at 10:00am, interment will follow at Earthman Memory Gardens Cemetery, 8624 Garth Rd., Baytown, TX 77521.
