Evelyn Trchalek Guidry, 79, born August 12, 1934, went to be with the Lord Sunday, July 13, 2014, with her loving husband, Charles Guidry by her side. On March 12, 1960, she married Charles at Central Baptist in Pelly where they are still members after 54 years.
She was preceded in death by her father, Edward Trchalek, mother, Adelle Stephenson, sisters, Florine Trchalek and Shirley Newton, brother, Norman Trchalek, and stepfather, Steve Stephenson. She is survived by her husband, Charles, brothers, Sonny (Winnie) Trchalek and Floyd (Shirley) Trchalek, and her sister, Avis (Buddy) Irby. She has three sons, Curtis (Dana) Guidry, Kevin (Shannon) Guidry, and Steven (Brande) Guidry and ten grandchildren, Darrell Guidry, Ashley Guidry, Jacob Guidry, Raegan Guidry, Tamara Guidry, Ryan Guidry, Briana Guidry, Noah Guidry, Joshua Guidry, and Faith Guidry.
Evelyn stayed home to take care of Charles and raise three boys while being everything from Church Financial Secretary, Sunday School Director for over 25 years, PTA meetings, Adult Church Choir, Golden Years Director, many VBS Directorships, to just being a great Mother, Friend, and Neighbor. After the boys were grown, she added more than 16 years serving Baytown residents at Sherwin Williams to her tasks. After retiring from Sherwin Williams, she and Charles volunteered for San Jacinto Methodist Hospital for over 10 years.
Evelyn loved to camp and fish. She was a master at catching Specs with dead shrimp, and had been known to trespass to catch crabs. There wasn't anything she couldn't cook and refused to be away from her grandchildren. Christmas Eve Gumbo will never be the same without her touch. She was very crafty making many Mother's Day and Father's Day refrigerator magnets, holiday decorations, and special event decorations from just about anything. Husband Charles often tired of cutting pine cones in half! You had to plan on being at the store awhile if you went along, since she had to talk to everyone she knew, and that seemed like everyone!
She was more dependable than a sunrise, touching many with her compassion.
Her family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. at Navarre Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Wells and Rev. Dan Gardner officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
