He was born January 14, 1925 in Inez, Texas to his late parents, John S. Norris and Geraldine Wynn Norris, was a longtime resident of Baytown, graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1943, a retired planner from Exxon after 38 years of service and was a deacon at Faith Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Norris was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II having fought on the Island of Peleliu, part the Western Caroline Islands Operation. He enjoyed fishing, working crossword puzzles and especially being Papa to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; twin daughters, Judy and Jane Norris; brother, John S. Norris, who lost his life in the Texas City explosion and a sister, Geraldine Noble.
Survivors include his wife, Bobbie Cherry Norris on Baytown; daughters, Nancy Baumbach and her husband Clarence of Crosby and Cindy Sammons and her husband Jimmy of Williamsburg, Virginia, brother, Wynn Norris and his wife Margie of Fort Worth; grandchildren, James Sammons and B. J. Brenner, Jean and Chris Lawrence, Ryan and Jackie Baumbach and Jamie Lynne and Forrest Wood; great-grandchildren, Caitlin, Sarah, Emily and Megan Lawrence and Brilyn Baumbach.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at White Cemetery in Highlands and a memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at Faith Presbyterian Church with Rev. Gene Edwards officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, July 27, 2009 at Navarre Funeral Home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Clarence Baumbach, Ryan Baumbach, James H. Sammons, Jr., James H. Sammons, III, William J. Brenner and Forrest R. Wood. Honorary pallbearers will be John S. Norris, III, Euclid B. Noble, Elliott Wynn Norris, Pete Sultis, Carl C. Currie, Randle D. Noble, Bruce Noble, Glenn Noble and Steve Cherry.
