Ethel Dawson

Ethel was preceded in death by her husband, Rubert Ruel Dawson; parents, Bill and Mary Oxendine; brothers, Alvin, Will, Calvin and Earl Oxendine and sister, Mildred Brown.

She is survived by her daughter, Myra Hedger and husband Doyce; grandsons, Shannon Hedger and wife, Ludie, and Sean Hedger and wife, Isabel; great­ granddaughters, Phoebe, Aliana, and Natalia Hedger as well as other family and friends.

Ethel loved the Lord her God and His son, Jesus, her savior and served Him by being a very active member of several Baptist churches over many decades. She enjoyed both teaching Sunday school children and later helping senior ladies by driving them to places they needed to go. She weekly visited ladies who were unable to attend church because of advancing years or health. The last few decades she was a member of First Baptist Church, Baytown, but when she became unable to drive at night, she attended First Baptist Church, Highlands with her daughter, Myra and family.

As a younger grandmother, Ethel and Rubert enjoyed vacations with their two grandsons. She also enjoyed sewing and quilting with the senior ladies at the Baytown Community Center. Ethel retired from Sears, Roebuck and Company in Baytown and made many friends through her work there over the years.

Alzheimer's disease altered her life and activities for her last thirteen years. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Alzheimer's Association. Designated envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

A visitation is scheduled for Sunday, April 24, 2016 from 2:00 P.M. - 4:00 P.M. at Navarre Funeral Home located at 2444 Rollingbrook Drive in Baytown, TX. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday April 25, 2016 also at Navarre Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Edwards officiating. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Ethel's life. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will be deacons of First Baptist Church, Highlands.
