Ann was born in Cut-N-Shoot, Texas on August 10, 1910 to James Archie and Emma Ann Vick. She was the fifth of eleven children, 8 daughters and 3 sons. Ann and her family remained in the Cut-N-Shoot area where she attended school until the 7th grade.
At the age of 17, Ann moved to Baytown, Texas to live with her older sister Minnie and work at the local hotel and boarding house. While working as a waitress at the hotel, Ann met Henry McAnulty, the local ice delivery boy. Henry and Ann were married on February 16, 1929. After their marriage, they continued to reside in Baytown and raised two daughters, Betty Fern and Jeannie Marie. Henry worked for Exxon while Ann was a devoted mother and homemaker.
In 1937, Henry and Ann purchased three acres on Avenue A in Channelview, Texas where Henry built their 1400 square foot two bedroom wood frame home. They had a full garden and small farm, which included hogs, cows, chickens, and horses. Their farm was located on what we know today as Interstate 10. The state purchased one and a half acres from Henry and Ann for the ultimate construction of the interstate.
Ann was a devoted Christian who instilled an unwavering love for Jesus Christ in her two daughters and extended family. Even though Ann never learned to drive, every Sunday she relentlessly managed to find a way to attend the First Baptist Church of Channelview, which she attended for 74 years. Ann proudly served as the secretary of her Sunday school class and had the honor of being the oldest member of the congregation.
Henry and Ann were married for 68 years before his passing in 1997. Ann continued to independently reside in the same two bedroom wood frame house until the age of 101. Ann then moved to Groveton, Texas to live out her final years with her daughter Betty.
Ann was a gentle, caring and loving friend, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She loved to cook, garden, celebrate life, and spend time with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; six sisters, Ella Mizell, Minnie Bickley, Lonie Manning, Marie Cox, Addie Mae Howard, and Navadia Walker; three borthers, Clarence Vick, Lubie Vick, and Johnie Vick; husband Henry McAnulty; and son-in-law Melvin Thompson.
