Mrs. Ellen Doris Laury, age 90, passed away on Saturday, March 1, 2025. Ellen was born on October 13, 1934 to the late Rosanna Rice and the late Ernest Turner. She attended grade school at Oscar De'Priest School in Hamlin, Texas where she was a fierce point guard basketball player. She remained a basketball enthusiast throughout her life. Ellen was married to the late Sam Laury. She was a loving mother to ten children; seven daughters, two sons, and one adopted great grandson. Ellen loved cooking and caring for her family.
Ellen was passionate about helping others. As a nurses aide at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas and a home health care provider in Baytown, Texas she fulfilled that passion for helping others. Ellen was a faithful Christian, baptized into Christ in 1987. She was a member of Baytown Church of Christ. Her ultimate goal in life was to live eternally with the Lord in Heaven. Ellen's favorite scripture was Psalm 23.
Ellen is preceded in death by her parents; her two brothers, Billy and John Turner; her only sister Clementine Brown; and two of her children, Sammy Laury and Renda Johnson.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children Sharon (Dave) Andrew, Cathy Moon, Joyce Laury, Vickie (Anthony) Sutherland, Regina (Charles) Dews, Travis Glenn Laury, Onis Jackson, and Neiman Laury; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; and her nieces, nephews, and many friends. Her legacy of love will always be remembered.
The family acknowledges and appreciates home healthcare provider and friend -Margarita Bermudez, the staff at Anchor Hospice -especially her nurses Christina B. and Tracy T., her special friends Gary and Bridget Gerza, the ladies at Birdsong Place Villa, and her brothers and sisters in Christ at Baytown Church of Christ.
Funeral services will be held at Baytown Church of Christ 5803 N. Main Baytown, TX 77521 on Saturday, March 8, 2025 with visitation starting at 10:00 am and the Celebration of Life starting at 11:00 am. Ellen will be laid to rest at San Jacinto Cemetery, 14659 East Freeway, Houston, Texas 77015 at 1:00 pm.
Serving as pallbearers will be Corneilus Childress, Ralston Dews, Blake Johnson, Tre Johnson, Byron Laury, Coy Laury, Sammy Laury, Shannon Laury, Derrick Lenford and Maurice Redmond.
