Dorothy Ann (Dot) Kemp went to be with the Lord surrounded by her family, on Monday, October 3, 2016. She was born November 5, 1930 in Houston, Texas to A. R. ""Judge"" and Bitha Wilson. Dot attended six different elementary schools because her parents had to move often for work during the Great Depression. The family settled down permanently in Mont Belvieu, Texas. She graduated salutatorian from Barbers Hill High School where she met her husband Vernon ""Potsy"" Kemp. They were married November 18, 1949, and had two children Debbie and Dusty. Dot and Potsy were avid bowlers where they made numerous lifelong friends. She began college after the children were older, graduating from the University of Houston and spent much of the rest of her life teaching under-privileged children. Dot's passion in life was her Lord Jesus Christ. She spent her life encouraging her family in the ways of the Lord and tirelessly serving others.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Dot is survived by her children Debbie Smith (Tommy) of Baytown, Texas, Dusty Kemp (Mary) of Houston, Texas, six grandchildren, Brett Smith of Houston, Texas, Jeff Smith of Baytown, Texas, Angie Neal (Rodney) of Cincinnati, Ohio, Amanda Jayne (Aaron) of Carlsbad, California, Dusti Kemp of Carlsbad, California, and Christopher Kemp of Baytown, Texas. Her six great-grandchildren are Amanda Vasquez, Hannah and Gabe Neal, Asher Jayne, and Lylah and Sam Smith.
A celebration of Dorothy's life will be held Thursday, October 6, 2016 at 11:00 am in the sanctuary of New Life Church, 10800 Hammerly, Houston, Texas.
