Donald Wayne Swint came into this world on January 31, 1936, the first of three sons to Joseph Theodore and Angie Wilson Swint. He danced his last dance here on earth Thursday, July 19, 2018, at age 82, surrounded by his family.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Angie Swint and brother, Robert Swint. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Stephen and Cheryl Swint; son & partner, Mark Swint and Teri Corbett, son and fiancé David Swint and Joanna Hickman; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Jon Kemppainen; grandchildren, Shelby and Jon Lindenberger, Trevor and Brooke Swint, Dylan Swint, Taylor Swint and fiancé Rachel Kim, Evan Kemppainen, and Leah Kemppainen; great grandchildren, Harper, Emery, Hayes, Riggs, and soon to arrive, Indie; mother of his children, Amy Bradfield; cherished stepmother to his children, Tilda Thompson; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Born and raised in Baytown, TX, Don graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1955. He received his Master of Education from North Texas State University, and other degrees and certificates from Lee Jr. College, Stephen F. Austin, Sam Houston State, and Lamar University.
He began his 31 year career in education at Grapevine ISD as a 4th grade teacher, but soon moved back home to the Goose Creek School District. He worked as a teacher and counselor and assistant director of special education at Anson Jones and Carver Jones Elementary Schools. He then became the principal at San Jacinto Elementary School where he attended as a child. Don also served as principal at Pumphrey Elementary and counselor at Ashbel Smith Elementary.
Don was always an advocate for social justice, including quality education for all, civil rights, and adult literacy. His lifetime involvement in the church included leading youth groups and teaching Sunday school and Bible study. Don had a passion for photography; creating art with his camera and showcasing the beauty in nature. Dancing and spending time on the water were also favorite pastimes.
Don continued the legacy of his parents for compassion and love for others, and the ability to see beauty in all things. This legacy continues through his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
We would like to give a special thank you to the staff of The Waterford at Baytown for having provided a loving environment for Don to continue his passion for helping others. He spent the last 10 years as a resident and acting ""Mayor” and concierge. The rose garden flourished under his care.
